Just wondering: I'm 5"7, 110 lbs, 5.3% bf (overactive thyroid)

Is it ok to have a moderate amount of unhealthy foods (McDonald's, cookies, ice cream) for maybe one meal a day in order to try and put on more bodyfat and weight? I have tried shakes, bars, "Mammoth gainer" and real food. I will continue to eat all of the above, but I am just wondering whether it would be really, medically detrimental to my health to do this.

P.S. I'm not talking about a supersize me diet, but just one big cheat meal every day

Carbs are your friend man, try hitting the 300g-400g mark daily and you should have no problem gaining weight. The key to adding mass is caloric intake, if your overactive thyroid is causing you to burn more calories, simply increase your caloric intake to compensate. My favorite sources of carbs: whole wheat bagels, Kraft Diner, Sidekicks, Flavoured rice, potatoes with a bit of margarine, vegetarian pizza, oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar. The key is variety, like white Cheddar Kraft Diner to Original lol.

Forget about Cheat foods, you're not cheating unless you're getting ready for a show. Just go with the mirror and eat responsibly. Chicken wings, a few slices of turkey bacon, meat lovers pizza and the occasional BBQ chicken with gravy and fries never killed anyone, so feel free to pig out once in awhile, say one pig-out meal every week or two.

Bon Appétit!

If you are going to eat unhealthy foods try to make them as healthy as possible.........or at least as natural as possible. You can get whole wheat pizza dough, stuff like that. The problem with fast food is all the additives and the saturated fats. These will cause damge to your body, even if it is not in the form of weight gain. If you are a hard gainer (judging by your pics Id say you are) you also may try waking up at 2 or 3 in the morning and eating a shake, then going back to bed. Like skywalker siad, try upping the complex carb intake. Good luck.

I'll try my best, and thanks for the ideas (sweet potatoes, KD, healthy pizza, etc.). The only problem I have (and i'm sure some of you will understand where I'm coming from), is that I'm in first year university. So not only are my options limited, but also, people my age don't understand counting carbs, calories, etc. If they see me counting the carbs in the foods I eat, and then explaining to them that I "have to eat a certain number", they'll either critisize me, laugh at me or accuse me of having an eating disorder. Now I know it's easy for you guys to say, 'Oh they don't understand...you don't have to listen to them" and stuff like that, but please appreciate that it's hard not to listen when people accuse and chastise you.

Yeah I know it. Well you have some options, first one is to get big real fast, so everyone knows you mean business.
Second, get a thick skin. But try to explain it to people, it's normal to think these stuff of you. We are the ones with the 'abnormal' live style. But just explains how it works, don't go sit down in a corner and eat your food. So instead of ignoring them, educate them. Gain their respect, once again, show them that you mean business. It's my first year to, and at first it was really bad, but now I'm actully working on a dieet for the hottest chick of my year. (Not she's not fat, but she ice skates, pretty high level, she got some quads I'm jealos off lol, and glutes..god damnn...but I explained the whole protein for muscles and complex carbs are good things to her and se said ok, make me a dieet)

Man...5'7 110....thats bad news...But man, your thyroid could lead to problems..Have you had that checked or is that a guess. Otherwise...I would go by this method...If you see food...or anything thats edible...eat it...jesus...110 5'7? Wow

Lol...If you ate like I ate and were still 110 and 5"7, you wouldn't have to guess that's it's a thyroid problem. It's confirmed by my GP. He says that there is a "short circuit" in the wiring between by pituitary gland and my hypothalamus", so everything from my metabolism to my hormones is messed up. This also means that I have no control over my satiety hormone - which is a problem because it means I never really know when I'm full or hungry. I mean, it's gotten to the point where I eat so much I make my body sick, but still don't feel it in my brain (that I'm full).

And jornT, thanks for understanding :)
