I've noticed that there are a lot of companies now that make protein bars with faulty nutritional information. For example, if you look at the Nito-tech S'mores bars, the breakdown is like this:
Calories - 290
Protein - 30
Carbs - 32 (6 g fibre, 4 g sugar, 9 g net effective carbs)
Fat - 8

Now, if you use the protein and carbs = 4 cals and fat = 9 equation, it would come to 320
If you only counted the net effective carbs, it would equal 228.

Why the difference? I don't understand where the calories are...

I think they may be accounting for sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohol, if Im correct is not usable by the body and thus is not included in the calorie count.(even though it would be included in the carb count.)

lol...but sugar alcohols are already dicounted when they do the "net effective carbs" count. Which would be the 228 number. I don't know where they arbitrarily got 290
