I'm currently trying to take in 1 to 1.5 gallons of water a day as a part of my dieting. I take in about 3 different kinds of shakes per day (NO Explode, Aftermax, Muscle Milk) with 50-60fl ounces of water and I'm wondering if I should be counting this toward my daily water intake goals.

Currently I do NOT count them towards my totals, but drinking that much water besides the supplements is quite laborious. Additionally, my gym buddy who is generally quite knowledgale cautioned me against taking in more then 1.5 gallons per day and this got me wondering if my fluids were too high.

Any thoughts? What do yall do?

Ohh, and in case it helps in answering my hydration questions, the philosphy behind my diet is as follows:

55grams of protien per meal goal. 400 calorie goal for each meal. 5-6 meals a day. Carbohydrates (mostly complex) are taken in the first two meals before (typically a muscle milk) and after (Aftermax) my morning workouts. Additional carbs come in with my veggies (mostly broccoli -- RALF).

In order to come near my caloric meal goals I generally have to add fat to my diet to not go too high in protien and get near 400--I've been trying to clean things up as my cutting phase nears its end, however. And not necessarily getting much higher 300 cals in the evening meals.

You should count the water in your shakes. and as far as the total amount of water you take in daily...that varies. everyone sweats differently. i sweat just when i think about working out, so i drink a lot of water. a good indicator whether or not you are hydrated is the color of your p*ss. the more clear it is the more hydrated you are. as your friend said, it is possible to drink too much water. if you get headaches or confussion then you are drinking too much water.

No dont count water in shakes as daily intake, mainy bc its needed to help digest the skaes, the protein and what not need water to be filtered. I wouldnt count the water in shakes as part of your daily intake mailny bc its being mixed with supplement and its not just pure water anymor.

After Max is the dookie i love that stuff. Talk about never being sore that stuff has 10g of glutamine in it. Great product for recoop.

Peace :mikec:

Diesel,

Thanks for that post--Ironically I woke up totally fagged with a nasty headache this morning... I JUST started shooting for <1.5 gallons per day 2 days ago, before that I was going for 1. I wonder if there is a correlation.

BigBen,

That makes a lot of sense. Perhaps I'll compromise between these approaches. I won't count the water in my shakes but will stay at 1 gallon for the next week or so. See how I feel.

Also--no kidding about that ON Aftermax, it really is the **** IMO. Very affordable as far as this stuff goes and nice spread of micro nutrients, almost exactly what I wanted macro/calorie wise too. One thing though, IIRC its 5 only grams of glutamine per serving though.

yea, its ironic that the symptoms of dehydration and over-hydration are the same. here, this is a good article: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm
