Howdy ya'll.

I'm in college and that pretty much takes most of my day. I get up at 6:45 and my school day is done by 16:45 (the exact time the bell rings for me the last time for that day). Now, I usualy go workout right afterwards, but....

I have lunch at like 14:00. That's three hours (give or take) before my workout. That doesn't make a hell of a pre workout meal does it? Now, I was thinking of having something like half a liter of milk with some ovaltine before the workout (this stuff comes dirty cheap for me and it's way better than chocolate powder or stuff like that). The milk gives me medium-digestion carbs and protein to keep me "safe" through the whole workout, not to mention it's supplying my muscles with protein just as they are being damaged. But this is a double edge, since I don't think it's the best idea to take down half a liter of milk and go do some squats 10 minutes later...

So, on scenario A, I'm not in danger of screwing up the gym floor and going home earlier, but I'm working out almost on an empty stomach; on scenario B I'm nutrient filled, but I might always give a nice effect to my squats (imagine a guy squatted down as a jet of puke is shot right out of his mouth ).

So, should I give scenario B a try? Maybe waiting a few minutes before working out?

Can you eat in class? What about taking in a very slow digesting meal (higher fiber and fat) as your pre workout? What about lifitng at a different time?

I recommend getting soem meal replacement powder, and drinking that right after class one your way to the gym.

Met-RX makes a great MRP.

Gumby hit the nail on the head. I take these almost every day http://cfmnutrition.com/metrx-50pack.html

I do try to get low gi stuff for lunch, but even a very low gi food is mostly digested after 3 hours...it's still being digested, but it won't be through the whole workout, and that's my concern.

And lifting at a different time isn't realy a choice. I'm a teenager and have to take the bus everywhere, and that kills a lot of time. If I don't workout right after school, I have to go like two hours later. If I start my workout at 7 and I'm done (shower and all) by 9, then I still have to come home (again, by bus), have dinner and do whatever needs doing (I do have a life you know ), and if I want to get 8 hours of sleep I have to be in bed at 10:30 or so. Mixing college with serious bodybuilding is no easy task, I assure you.

And no, I'd get kicked out if I tried eating in class.

I'll look into that, thanks.

Meanwhile, I was thinking of preparing some quick oats (quaker) with milk and take with me to have after class. Quick oats are like 65 on the gi, moderate-to-high, about right for my particular needs no?

I hear you. Eli and I both graduated from college 3 years ago. We both played college sports along with lifting day in and day out. ..definitely keeps you busy. It gets much easier when you graduate. Good luck! :Banane47:

Gumby did hit it on the head. An MRP would be perfect. Why do you want to include milk so bad before your workout? That would upset the hell out of my stomach. I assume going to the bathroom to eat is out of the question then also?
