2nd ingredient glycerin. Gylerin is used as a sweetner (like sugar alcohols) that has minimal impact on insulin spiking (not good for PWO nutrtion). Glycerin is also used in soaps as a moisturizor and it makes a good solvent.

So you are thinking I wont eat them for PWO nutrition, but the 3rd ingredient is hydrolyzed gelatin (aka hydolyzed collegen) It is the worst sourse of protein. It makes the bar chewy and has a BV rating of a massive 0%. Sadly it is still called a protein. IOW bars are crap. :)

Bars a a good way to go if your on the run, so are MetRx meal replacements. I use them all the time. Get some cold water and drop it in a shaker bottle, and they are great tasting as well.

Agreed, bars are better than nothing, but hydrolyzed gelatin is the 2nd protein on the list. If they are are claiming 35g of protein that means the bar haa 18 grams of protein the body can use. They get us all the time with deceptive advertising. Bastards.:redface2:Like Bigmk said throw a shaker bottle in a backpack (or carry it if you want to look hardcore), throw some water in it, slam it down, and flex your bicep (optional). Much better alternative. :)

good point.

Bars are good as a "last resort". Are the better than nothing? Absolutely. But it's best to try to eat real food as much as possible.

Not to mention, eating protein bars too often could lead to some problems with digestion and such. (mainly constipation)

shakes are more expensive, but probably better for you.

Detour bars taste pretty dang good, if you are used to bland BB diet. Detour was a little dishonest on their sugar claims, but the bars are still tasty at 14g of sugar. http://www.labelclaimstesting.com/?pageID=4&mp=9&
