i recently moved back up to college, and since im now having to buy all my own food, i dont think i am eating enough protein. or just plain food at all, for that matter. i get up, eat 4-5 eggwhites, bowl of cheerios or some cereal like that, a banana, and a scoop of GNC whey protein and head to class. after three hours of class, i eat a cliff bar and hit the gym anywhere from 2-4 hours, go back home, drink another serving of protein and make some kind of dinner. the nutrition facts on the protein say i get 20 grams of protein per serving, but it doesnt list my daily % value. am i getting enough?

I'll be in the same situation as you are, in a few days, as I too will be moving back to college. Eating enough food will be much more challenging considering the added frustrations of money, actually shopping for the food, class, homework, etc. Your best bet would be to make use of the dining hall as much as possible (assuming you have one). Most dining halls offer several types of meat and carbs. For example, I know that in my dining hall you can get plenty of grilled chicken breasts, flank steak and rice. I plan on ordering enough food so that I'll be able to pack some away and save it for later. I figure this will save me time and money, as well as ensuring that I won't miss a meal.

Other quick fixes include throwing a potato or two into the microwave or a bowl of quaker oats. It sounds like you aren't eating nearly enough if you are trying to put on any weight. Try to eat around 6 meals a day, consisting of 400-700 calories each, depending on your daily caloric needs. As a general rule of thumb, try to eat between 1.5-2 grams of protein per pound of your bodyweight per day.

Also --- what the hell do you do in the gym for 2-4 hours? Try cutting that workout time in half. Less than an hour for your weight lifting routine anyways.

I take whey protein 2 times a day. Once right before working out w/ milk and once right after working out with water. Each time I put in 2 scoops so a total of 4 of just whey alone. The rest of my protein I get from food.

edit: also its ONs whey 23g per serving so 23x4=92g of protein of whey. I feel that some people drink protein shakes way to many times through out the course of a day but thats just a personal opinion.

im living off campus this year, so i dont have the dining hall option. there is never enough meat in the house, so i have to eat a ton of pasta and other carbs to keep the hunger down. bad, i know. as for the gym....yeah my total weightlifting runs around 45 minutes. the rest of the time i am boxing. i try to eat some sort of fruit and get protein from as many different sources as possible. hopefully tomorrow ill be able to get some of those economy size bags of chicken for meals...

Sometimes I get bloated for eating too many meals (my stomach can't handle over 4 meals a day), so I'll have a Met-Rx protein bar when I get hungry.
