Im new here but I have been lifting for a few months now. The supplements Im taking right now are just L-glutamine and whey protein. Im 21, 5'10' or somwhere around there, and last time i checked i weighed around 165 lbs. I used to weigh less but since ive ben going to the gym ive gained muscle mass. I go to the gym about 5 or six times a week and do one muscle group a day. I also do about a half hour of cardio a day. Im usually at the gym for about an hour, sometimes a little more but I try not to do that. I try to eat a decent diet but being on a crazy class and work schedule, plus coming from an italian family it is hard to stick to dieting. Thats all the info for anyone who needed it. Ive reached sort of a plateau almost in my lifting. For example, I havent been able to increase my weight when I bench. Im benching about 135 and have been stuck there for awhile. Im not a fan of supplements other than protein but I was wondering if there was anything that can help. I cant do any N.O. supplements because I have a high sensitivity to that stuff. I know creatine can help but I have heard it can mess up your kidneys. Now Im really not looking to be a huge bodybuilder, even thought this site is called bodybuildingdungeon.com, im just trying to keep in shape and tone my muscles a bit. Anybody got any ideas?

1) Ditch L-glutamine. Alot of folks around here will tell you the same thing.

^Additionally, my .02, switch up between dumbbells and barbell. I know that I had a max bench of 205 for about 3 reps. I went with dumbells for awhile and went up in weight with those. I went back to barbell, I was able to do 225 for 6 reps. You need to vary your workouts so your body doesnt adapt. As far as creatine messing with your kidneys, I can't recall any studies that have mentioned that.

thanx alot. the article you posted about busting through a plateau is what i needed. I am gonna give creatine a try too. Also, once im out of my L-glutamine then no more for that. I bought a small container so its not gonna loast much longer. Im a beginner so I dont know all that stuff so the article really helps. Thanks again.

Well I agree with getting rid of the glutamine. Creatine might help but isn't necessary. All you need to do is mix up your routine. Instead of barbell benching do dumbbell bench for a week or two or even three. Your body must be constantly adapting.
