Through out the last couple years ive been preached to how important protein is. Its the building block of muscle, it repairs your muscle, blah blah blah. I recently bought a bucket of Iso Xp, this have 50g whey protein per scoop and low carbs. I got half way through the bucket and just cant stand it anymore, it causes severe heartburn for me, and 5 minutes after ingestion I burp/throw some of it up. I tried letting the foam go down and everything, it still comes up.

So about a month ago I stopped taking it all together. the only protein ive been getting is from my diet, no protein supplement. And to be honest ive been still getting just as much gains and recovering just fine as when i did take it.(probably because of the cellmass).

So my question is, Is it really necessary?

no no it not necessary....however it is the fastest digesting protein so the faster you get protein in your body the faster it can buil the proteins back up to build muscle soooo it just depends on whether or not you want that extra advantage....try a different protein...i never liked that stuff....and don't get the foamy part??? mines never foamy i use ON 100% but am switching soon i think...like tomorrow but maybe just try a different kind of protein bro

I think you need to switch to a better protein powder.. Try ON whey or scivation whey...

To a bodybuilder it is necessary if you can not take in a adequate amount trough your diets. Protein will always be second to a perfect diet but if you not meeting proterin requirements for your body to grow with diet alone, than yes IMO protein is necessary

as far as protein powders go, you get what you pay for. the cheaper is it the worse it tends to taste and mix.

Thats true 99% in my experience. Even for myself sometimes well get some great deals so Ill pick a protein up for myself and end up throwing it away because of poor quality.

I use Isopure sometimes. Is that what you meant..? Anyways Isopure sometimes foams up like yours does but i do mine in a blender bottle and fill it 3/4 with water, shake shake for 10 seconds or so and then let it sit. Let the bubbles and crap settle a bit then drink it. As for the heartburn, that's odd. Rarely that happens to me, like I used to wake up in the night for a piss and then take the opportunity to have a shake, I got it then but I stopped doing that because the shake woke me up! lol.

If you want to lower protein ok you're set on it but if you keep pushing weight, take one post workout, that's the one time when you really need it if you want to build some muscle.

That depends on if y0our getting enough protein through your diet. Sometimes a protein shake is just quicker and easier. Make sure you still eat protein in the moring and PWO and really all through out the day at every meal.

sometimes when im really hungry and havent got time to make a decent nutrition meal, i go for a shake on the go. I figure its always better than eating something unhealthy.

The only time a protein shake is a real advantage is PWO. Outside of that time frame, protein from whole foods will be a better choice because of all the other nutrients the whole foods provide.

I think everyone here will agree with this. but... in my case, a full well balanced meal isn't always doable. I'm in deliveries and I don't think my co-worker will appreciate it if i'm driving with one hand while my plate is in my lap with a fork in the other hand.

Depends on how hardcore you are with your diet. I'm extremely strict about what I eat and I like to have whey in the mornigs too because of the fast digestion rate. Fast digesting carbs are a good idea in the morning too, not enough to spike insulin but enough to give your body the carbs that it needs upon waking.

Although it can be argued that your body will still have the stuff that you ate over the past couple days and really doesn't need carbs first thing in the morning because of that.

Would be an interesting discussion if others would like to chime in.
