Daily dose of Omega-3?

I am 22 years old and 195lbs, currently I take one 900mg fish oil in the morning
with my other vitamins. I have heard though that when lifting some people take as much as 6g a day? What would all the extra help with, and would it be worth taking 6g a day?

I read 1 g in the morning, 1 g at night.

Some people raise it if their goals are weight loss. Not sure if it works, but people do up it to 5 g in morning and 5 g at night. I'm currently cutting with fish/flax pill supps so I'll figure out if it works or not, personally.

ya it is used to really give you the dry look i beleive and take what you are taking twice a day and that will be fine for what you want

6g a day is pointless, here are some good guidelines for supplementation.

the National Institute of Health recommends approximately 650mg of omega 3 fish oil daily dose while the American Heart Association recommends 650-1000mg per day.

There is a slight difference there but the Heart Association has done more studies and trials as it benefits the heart probably more than anything. Lastly, the World Health Organization recommends that a mere 300-500mg of omega 3 fish oil daily dose.

The AHA recommends that people with high triglycerides take an omega-3 fatty acid supplement with 2 to 4 grams (2000 to 4000 mg) of EPA and DHA. There is no need to take all these omega-3 fatty acids at once; you may find that splitting it up into two daily dosages decreases some of the bothersome omega-3 side effects. The AHA recommends that you take omega-3 fatty acids for this use only under the supervision of your healthcare provider.

The AHA does not recommend omega-3 fatty acid supplements for people who do not have a diagnosis of heart disease or high triglycerides. Instead, it recommends that people eat a variety of fish at least twice a week. Oily fish (such as salmon or trout) are preferred over non-oily fish (such as cod or halibut), since non-oily fish are low in omega-3 fatty acids. If you do not like fish and want to try an omega-3 fatty acid supplement,that would be the way to go.

Good one mike.

Just picked up more fish and flax pills. I weighed one pill, it is 2 g. Just putting it out there. Lots easier to take a pill then to measure out liquid in a teaspoon.

does the bottle not say how many grams are in the pills? and i agree the pills are much easier than the liquid, also the flax seed oil in the liquid form can go bad after awhile so you need to keep it fresh if you go that route,

A fish oil omega-3 supp should be purified. I would be careful as to which I'm taking, heavy metals like fish oil. The supp I use goes thru a 6 step purification.

There's actually been some good research that shows mega-doses of fish oil improve insulin sensitivity. I tend to believe that groups like the AHA offer solid guidelines, but are also a bit behind the most cutting edge research. Search around PubMed and similar sites to browse more interesting, cutting edge and effective ways of using supplements like fish oil.
