I'm sorry if this topic has been brought up recently or if this is the wrong area to post this topic in, I do not post here much.

My sleeping pattern is having a negative impact in all areas of my life, especially my weight training.

I never recall having sleeping problems when I was in high school or before that, but when I turned 20 or around that time I have found it very hard to sleep consistently.

I try not to drink any caffeine or do any strenuous activity before I sleep. I sleep in a quiet, comfortable place. However I find that even on training days where my body is physically tired and I really want to go to sleep, I can lay in my bed for many hours try to relax and not be able to sleep. sometimes I stay up for as long as 30 or 40 hours before I can sleep but it is usually not that bad.

I admit that I haven't done much research on the subject, I have tried to cope with it the best as I can. I have a friend who uses Ambien he says it works fine for him, but I have heard many negative things about it. I am a bit skeptical about taking a strong drug like this even though it is not a narcotic.

Is there a more subtle approach to solving this problem? Perhaps an herbal remedy?

I am interested to see if anyone else here has had a problem like mine and if there is a product that they would like to reccomend so that I can do some research on it.

try melatonin bro... its cheap as **** and u can get it at any grocery store... its a natural sleep aid and is not habit forming in either short or long term use... melatonin is a hormone in ur brain that is released wen u eyes sense darkness and it tells ur body to start shutting down... ive been havin sleeping problems lately too bro but i think its just cuz my pattern is ****ed up... my body was used to sleeping a max of 8hrs a night most of the time less cuz of school but its winter break so i started sleepin a **** ton more sometimes over 12hrs... i think i got too much sleep and my body simply hasnt been gettin tired and hasnt needed the rest... but i try and it sucks cuz my muscles have been stayin sore for so long... but give melatonin a try bro, it does the trick for most people... hope that helps

Melatonin works wonders for me. They have 3mg and 5mg; I take the 3mg. I take one right after I brush my teeth, and I'm out in about 15-20 minutes. One downside is that you need to have enough time for at least 7 hours or you'll be tired all day. Don't take it if you are going to get less. Hope this helps and let us know.

I'm using USPLabs PowerFULL right now and it is awesome. It puts me out in about 30 min, and gets me a full healthy night sleep, wake up very refreshed, also have vivid dreams.

the only down side of using ambien, is you cannot drink booze , should go with out saying but i`m saying it anyway, second thing is if you take it and dont go right to bed you can be in a state of half sleep, where you will be in a daze so to speak, where you can function but you will do things , like eating like a horse and not remember doing it, mild amnesia i believe is how they refer to it, i have been using ambien for years and those are the only down sides, but they are workable if you take the pill and go to bed, other wise, i have used melatonin which work for some people but not for everyone and like posted above its cheap so if it does not work your not out much money, another is called simply sleepy, down side to this is its a real hard to get out of bed in the morning.. real groggy feeling.. i plan on trying this new x-dream soon as i get some extra money and will make a post about that also,, good luck,

I can never sleep either. I might give this melatonin stuff a try. I use nyquil or tylenol pm once in a while but that doesn't always work.

yeah melatonin is cheap and I found worked pretty well most of the time...crazzzzzy dreams

Also I found initially that taking sleeping aids in the beginning actually made my sleep patterns worse, I think it was a mental thing, as soon as I knew I was taking a sleep aid I somehow kept myself up even longer...
Then I went two days without sleep aids, slept extremely well, then tried melatonin again and it made my sleep even better

So for me it definitely wasnt a quick fix for me, but worth it in the end

thanks for all the suggestions.

I am going to try taking a low dose of melatonin before sleep ( 0.5g to 1g).

Wikipedia says to avoid larger doses (3g or higher) or there is a chance for unwanted sides like headaches, dreaming, nausea etc...

Not only does melatonin promote better sleep but it is also an antioxidant and boosts your immune system as well and I think it's inexpensive.
