Your body will attempt to adapt to anything you throw at it, food, training, sleep cycles. Depending on your genetics, you will adapt to these very quickly and easily or very slowly and with great difficulty.
Any excess protein in your system will either be excreted, stored or used for energy. The more and longer you have a higher-than-need protein diet, the more efficient you will become at burning it for fuel.
Caffeine another example. How many people now need 2-4 cups of coffee minimum a day to function? It's because they have adapted to the caffeine levels.
I would guess it holds true for anything apart from hormones/pro-hormones. I don't think your body can adapt to this but I may be wrong.
