You can either take it with milk or water, depending on how you want it, milk will give it maybe a little more thicker flavor,but also will have more calories.

IMO these are the best times to take whey protein:

• As soon as you wake up;

• 40 minutes prior to working out;

• Immediately after working out.

if you need me to explain more about why to take them at those times i will

As Soon As You Wake Up

Upon wakening, your body is pretty much in a starvation mode. Whether you realize it or not, your body is craving for nutrients and needs these nutrients in order to kick start it’s internal mechanisms to start building and working. Your body is weak and wants protein. The sooner you can get some protein into your body, the better.

Now this is very important and one that can really boost your weight training results, OVERNIGHT! Approximately 45 minutes after you’ve consumed your whey protein shake, you must have a full, muscle building breakfast. By doing this, you are jump starting your bodies ability to use the protein effectively and efficiently.

40 Minutes Prior To Working Out

If you have some pretty intense workouts, your going to stock up on some fast acting, high quality proteins. Whey protein contains high levels of branched amino acids which help preserve muscle stores of glycogen. This is very, very important. Since glucose is the bodies number one energy source, high muscle stores of glucose ensure high, intense workouts.

I would recommend you ingest a whey protein isolate drink mixed with some complex carbohydrates to maximize your workouts.

Immediately After Working Out

In terms of when to take whey protein, this is the most important time to take in a fast acting protein drink. If you were to only have one protein drink per day, this is the time of day to take it.

I strongly suggest that after your workouts, you ingest a the protein and a simple sugar.

Why carbohydrates and protein? When carbohydrates is taken with protein, there's a blast of insulin. Insulin kicks the body's glycogen making machine into high gear. Glycogen is considered the principal storage form of glucose and is found mainly in liver and muscle. Glucose supplies the bodies active tissues with energy.

Therefore, insulin will speed up the movement of glucose and amino acids into cells which is what you definitely want and secondly, it activates a special enzyme which is essential for glycogen synthesis.

If you are referring to using milk with "banana milkshake" flavor then yes I dont see why not.

All star is perfectly right about the times as far as im concered. Also make sure if you are working out in the morning you get complex carbs in your body also (for energy) The best source of that would be oatmeal.

I workout in the morning and usually have Oatmeal with 4 egg whites (one or two yolks) and a protein shake about an hour before my workout.

If you feel as though you run out of "gas" in the weightroom then eat more for preworkout meal.

Edit:Ooops looks like im a little too slow :O

Also, your after workout meal is prolly the most important meal of the day like allstar said. My after workout meal its lunch time anyways so after having my protein shake I load up big time on my depleted carbs and protein.

As far as mixing protien powder you could mix it in mike water juice, shit you could mix it in dog piss as long as your ingesting it.

For the amout to take you should take in 1 to 1.5 grams of protien per pound of bodyweight per day. If you weigh 200 lbs you should take in 200 to 300 grams of protien per day, BUT, you want to take it from as much whole food as possible in other words try to make shakes only one or two a day IF possible depending on time and budget, get the rest from real food.

But follow this for basic requirements

40 grams immediatly upon waking
20 grams 1/2 to an hour before working out
40 -60 grams immediatley after working out
and IF you have a hard time adding weight 20 grams right before bed

The remaining amouts should be filled in with meals throughout the day. Try to eat ever 2-3 hours

This is not intended to be insulting but you seem like you are just starting out or relativley new to lifting. Results take time if it came over night every jackoff walking down the street would be jacked out of his mind. Hard work and dedication sometimes arent enough. Working out is a hobby, Bodybuilding is a lifestyle
