What you're looking for the Omega-3 (you get enough 6 through diet), particularly, EPA and DHA.
Flax seed contains a mixture of omega-3 and 6. The omega-3 fatty acids are all in the form of ALA. The body then has to convert the ALA into the final products, EPA and DHA.
Here's the problem, the human body is not entirely efficient at this conversion, especially in certain people (get a gene profile done if you really want to know if you are or are not). So, in terms of supplementation, you are far better off supplementing with fish oil for your omega-3 fatty acids.
