While looking around various sites and through various magazines, I've been seeing that some proteins are favored over others; more specifically I'm looking at the comparison between BSN Syntha 6 over ON Whey/ON Whey Pro Complex. With all these responses and articles, I've also read that BSN Syntha 6 is a better protein due to its more complex structure which takes longer for the body to process. Is this true? Right now I have some ON Whey that I use before workouts and some ON Casein and I really like both but, when I make my next protein purchase, I'd like to make sure I'm getting the best quality out there, though for the best price too. So is Syntha 6 a better choice, or does it all boil down to preference?

BTW: I'm sorry if this is a repeat of a previous post. I searched around and didn't really see a comparison between BSN and ON.

ON nutrition is a great brand because their whey protein is isolate, meaning that its the purest form of whey protein that you can get. As far as I know, BSN whey is from concentrate, which isn't as high of a quality as isolate.
The difference between syntha-6 and the ON whey is that syntha-6 is a blend of whey, egg, and casein proteins, which means that you will have a constant supply of protein for about 6 hours or so after you take it - the whey for the first 30 minutes, the egg for the next 1.5-3 hours, and the casein for 5 hours+.
So really it depends on what you want to use it for. If its only for directly after workouts, then use whey isolate. Any other time you can use the blend because you don't need your protein to digest super quick.
I have both.

Syntha-6 has isolate, concentrate, milk proteins, egg proteins, micro-filtered whey isolate, it's rich in whey isolate peptides, has casien in it, and has a great deal more things I won't go into. It's a great protein and some parts of it absorb faster than others which is why it is an A.M. to P.M. sustained release protein. It gives you constant protein and keeps you anabolic. It's like sent from heaven in my opinion, but I am a strictly BSN guy. so take that for what you will. It's just got more than people think it does.

HAHA! Finally a guy who knows his supplements. I started off with BSN, tried MHP. MuslecTech. etc, and BSN has worked the best by far! If anyone is looking for a good extended release protein but MHP Problic SR. Its a 12 hour extended release. I saw pretty good results from it.

To those who have replied so far, thank you. I think I'm going to stick with ON since I'm a little more familiar with that brand but what I also would want to know is how much protein would be a proper dosage for a guy my size; I'd like to be able to put a good amount of protein in me while still being able to shed stomach fat. I'm 5'11 and hovering slightly under 175 and I would like to build up some muscle and attempt to get down to 165 or 160 come about June 1st.

to bulk you need 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight. you're going to gain most of your mass from carbs on a bulk. you should shoot for 2 to 3 grams per lb of bodyweight. It's going to help you more than anything to get your diet tuned in.

If your seriously interested in learning more about proteins Lyle McDonald wrote a book all about protein and how the body uses it, I have 3 books in front of it but its def on the To-Read list.

Go to a site like Amazon.com and search for Lyle McDonald and you should be able to find out more about the book

Alright, everyone, thanks for you help. After thinking about it, I think I figured out what protein I'm going to buy and how I'm going to use it. I'll make a future post of what that is when I purchase it so I can get some feedback to see if I'm doing it correctly.
