Okay, i noticed alot of people on here love weight gainers. I personally have never seen the necessity in using a weight gainer for a few reasons.

1. I can make my own with whole ingredients probably for cheaper and i will know what is in it.

2. I dont have to worry about whatever ELSE is hidden away in a non-FDA approved product that im downing 500-1000 calories of.

3. They are often loaded with vitamins and minerals that serve no purpose to me. I take a great multi-vitamin every day. MMMMOOORRREEE vitamins? No thanks.

4. I cant control what is in it once i have purchase a weight gainer. Trying to get just a certain type of carb? Nope. Trying to get a certain protein? Nope. Cant change now.

So, why do yall choose to use a weight gainer instead of making your own out of food from a grocery store? A nice gainer i used to make had peanut butter, eggs, milk, banana, old fashioned oats, and whey. Mix in the right portions, and you can easily have over 800 calories in a single serving.

I'm not trying to dog on anyone here, but i just want to know why so many have gone to using weight gainers instead of the whole food approach. Unless your trying to cram over 5k calories a day, i dont see the necessity, and even then i dont know if its practical.

Good post, definitely agree.
Only thing a weight gainer has over whole food is its convenience. Some people might not have the time to fit in all of their meals in a day.

Food has to be the staple, hands down. Look at it this way, I am a college student and don't have time between classes to go and eat something, and there are professors who don't like it when you are eating something in class, but dont object to a drink. And personally when I bulk I eat between 5,000-10,000 calories a day, and at a certain point food becomes expensive, especially in amounts like that.

It really is a convenience thing though more than anything, but you should look at them to replace your meals/food. If you are eating 6-7 meals a day, make sure you are getting real food at least 4-5 of them and can use a weight gainer for the other 2, or however you break down your meals. When you can eat food eat it, when you really can't, have a gainer or a shake. Think of it like taking a whey shake, you should be eating food, but the shake is more convenient and you take that instead.

I dont understand your point at all.

Convenience includes everything from no dishes to clean, fast meals, and lots of locations.

Sit down restaurants usually take 20-35 minutes from the time you order till the time you are handed the plate of food. For a quick meal, that isnt all that quick when i can drive through a Taco Bell and have a meal in my hands in less than 5 minutes from the time i order.

Tall-Hard, i can see where you are getting at with the meals during class. Certainly, having that kinda convenience in a shake that doesnt spoil, at least before you add water, is nice.

All my meals are fast food because I make them in advance not one at a time.

whole food.... regardless of the convenience weight gainers are a scam IMO. You can grind up a **** load of oats at a time and seperate that and some protein in a baggy bam a easy "weight gainer" shake, you can take with you to class. Theres too many cheaper more wholesome options to buy overpriced overhyped premade weightgainer.

I responded to your reponse when a member said that a weight gainer is convinient. You repied with the qote above. I said no, Fast food is a form of convinience but more so aimed towards a convinient way of eating out vs eating at a resturant ( therfore resturant longer-fast food faster) You didnt understand my post but agreed with what I said unkowingly.

Could have been my bad for mabey not phrasing my point clearer.

Any ways I agree food is always the best form of nutrition. But sometimes people need a little extra help.

I think i understood your particular point, that fast food is indeed more convenient than eating at a restaurant, but i was leaning towards the comparison of fast food vs cooking a meal yourself in my original comparison.

Lets just consider this dead, as i dont think either of us really care to extend this as we both agree to the more important point. Real food> Weight gainers in most cases.

I don't feel weight gainers should be replaced for whole foods as it is a SUPPLEMENT. To supplement your current diet not replace it.
