I was looking thru alot of these posts and some of them say that any store bought weight gain shakes suck, in that the have all that sugar and whatnot, some of them said that its easy to just make a homemade weight gain shake without all the sugar by using oatmeal and some protein powder, so i tried that, i combined water, oatmeal, and 2 scoops of casein.. is that sufficient for a weight gain shake? any opinions, ideas, info? thanks

use milk instead of water. if you want to, add some peaut butter, a little chocolate syrup couldnt hurt either if your going for weight gain. (you could use strawberry or what have you). and fruit is good to.

I disagree with a lot of the ingredients Gumby listed, basically the reason (besides cost) of these is to obtain a high caloric profile from low GI carbs and high quality proteins. I would definately avoid ice cream, milk also. I reccomend fruit on a bulk because the health benefits are endless, but i would avoid these on a cut.

Better source of carbs/protein, will not spike insulin, will make building muscle much better, probably 1/3 the price.

Becase the purpose of these is they are an easy way to ingest a lot of calories from good healthy sources. If you want more calories just add some extra amounts of the good ingredients.

Ice cream and milk are both low GI carbs.

i make this at home after every work out and its excellent both in taste and in nutrition:

2 frozen strawberries: 100grams = 2 grams protein and 32 calories

1 egg= 100grams = 13 grams protein, 143 calories

1 banana= 2 grams protein, 110 calories

500 ml milk= 20 grams protein, 230 calories

1 TBS honey= 50 calories, A LOT of energy and vitamins

Nesquick strawberry milk sauce= 60 calories

so in total you guys will get about 37 grams of natural protein and 625 calories. pretty good i think

if you want added protein i suggest an extra egg, or some strawberry flavor protein powder, and for extra calories u can add maybe some strawberry ice cream, that will boost it up to maybe 900 calories. as well you got your daily intake of fruits, a good amount of calcium and your daily vitamins... bon appetite

depends on how high-cal you want it to be. could range anywhere from oats + protein in milk up to one of my faves, McCallum's famous Get Big Drink.

Store weightgainers basically you don't know exactly what is in it. Basically my favorite weight gain shake made twice a day is:
2 scoops Probolic SR chocolate
1 cup old fashioned oats
4 tbsp natural peanut butter
10 g creatine
5 g glutamine
throw it all in a blender and use some water and enjoy

yo i agree ice cream is not great for the physique but i agree to add it to a cheat meal. hell if your on a cycle or taking pure insulin it will help control your sugar levels. for the natural guys hell man ice cream maybe once a month. Trust me the shake i listed has all you need in it, protein carbs, fat. try it and tell me your not happy
