okay i think this might help you out. when people refer to whey protein it means the actual type of protein. Whey is a fast digesting protein that should be used both preworkout (about 20grams) and post workout (40 grams). this digests more readily, than say a
casein protein. casein protein digests over a period of hours, and you should take it before bedtime. it prevents catabolism (basically prevents your body from going without food for 8hours. because you would not do that during the day.)
The terms you refer to regarding "isolate" and "concentrate," have to do with the percentage of protein in the powder. Concentrate is a higher grade, and has a higher percentage of protein. Isolate is cheaper and has less of a percentage. If you are still confused you can take a look at this link, that i got from the front page of the forum!
