thats not true you dont only need it if your on gear. Personally I have been taking it for years just because it helps support you liver. Everything you put in your body gets filtered out by your liver so it doesnt hurt to give it a little help.

I have to agree with Cook, here. I look at it this way, pretty much everything you consume is filtered by, or in some way impacts your liver, your kidneys, or both. If I'm not mistaken, high protein consumption can stress the kidneys, and could benefit from additional support (I think this is what Saw Palmetto is for). I wouldn't be at all suprised if the liver is stressed from this as well.

Besides, think of it like sex: (You're not just having sex with your partner, you're having sex with everyone they've had sex with.) The same with food. Your not just processing the food that you're eating, your also processing a lot of stuff that went into that food as well. (Like all the soy by products from that post on soy!)

Milk thistle is one supplement that I believe could benefit everyone in this sport, whether they're juicing or not.

I'd go powder for it. It's really dirt cheap. Check it out here:

Milk Thistle Powder (80%) from NutraPlanet - $8.95

Well worth it, in my opinion. I've been taking this for years.

I wrote an answer to this question on my website Fire Iron Online I will copy the question and the answer for you. If you still have question go to my site and select contact us from the drop down menu

Question:
I've heard a couple of guys talk about milk thistle on here (discussBodybuilding.com) and how it may benefit in muscle growth. I could be wrong, but thats my question and I'm wondering what it does for a body builder and if I should take it. I am 21 if that matters. Thanks

Answer:
Because I have damaged my body for so long and I don't want to spent the rest of my life taking medication I use Milk thistle. many bodybuilders supplement single vitamins which can cause a large amount of damage to the liver, thing like tribulus, yohimba, Since the liver is responsible for metabolizing or breaking down many medications and even large amount of BCAA can strain the liver.

There two types of hormones produced by the liver which doctors monitors to determine if you are a diabetic, most of the times these test given by doctor are actually measuring the amount of fat stored on the liver, fat stored on the liver is called Steatohepatitis which is an inflammation of the liver and to put it simple Milk Thistle helps to support a healthy liver

Anyone taking supplements over long periods of time (10 years of more ) should be taking milk thistle. however it you are younger and take better care of yourself you never have to take it except for occasional body maintenance.

high protein diets do tend to tax the liver...milk thistle is product that everyshould take even people who are involved in a fitness lifestyle like ours. especially people who drink alchohol on a regular basis.
