I dono if this belongs in the supp section, but anyways heres why GNC has such a bad rep and stupid ****in people working there. Im browsing in the mall the other day and I waltz into GNC, though I'm not a fan because its overpriced and has **** selection. I see this kid in there, maybe 17 or 18 and theres the girl working there helping him. She literally forces the kid to tack on an extra 80$ to his NO xplode bill forcing him to buy Mega Man multivitamin and, yes, or course, Nitrix. She tells him this stack will give him 10 lbs and increase his strength in a week. I could not believe the kid was so naive in believing some broad that looks like she belonged a library with her Elvis Costello glasses. The bill turned out to be like 150$ and plus she forced him to drop another 15$ on the GNC gold card gig. I will never go into GNC for as long as I live after seeing what I saw.

$150 @ GNC is not that much these days. I just ordered some supps online and (even with shipping) saved $$$. Our GNC has an old lady who has been there forever as the manager. She is ok. However, the two hippos she has working for her are another story. They are huge!

It is still fun to go in there every now and then and just listen to them talk to the customers. Good for a laugh.

I was at my local GNC a few weeks back right when they were about to close, just browsing the store. The girl in they said it was closing so I walked outside to my truck. As I was leavin the parking lot, the SECOND she locked the door to the store and stepped out, she lit up a cigarette. I was like WOW, thats setting a GREAT EXAMPLE for the General Nutrition Center.

Ok well this is interesting, seeing as how I just recently got a job at GNC. You know, most of the employees out there don't know what the hell they are talking about and will try to sell you whatever and give you bull**** advice, true. But it's unfair to say that it's like that everywhere. I know I am honest to customers, and I always tell them what they NEED, then I inform them of other supplements that they may want to buy on top of that, but there's no gaurentee that work. I always inform every single person that browses the sports supplements that a proper diet and training are number one. As far as the prices, GNC starts marking down products that will expire with in 8 months. For instance, if a whey protein is going to expire this year in march, we'll take 80% off of it. If you came in the store and bought it now, then you'd be done with it before that date anyways. And if you believe that Vitamin Shoppe has all the good deals then look again. When they have big sales, it's because the items are close dated and are about to expire within one or two months. At GNC we have the month marked along side the price, so at least the customers know. The fact is, a majority of customers that come into GNC aren't there for sports supplements. Most customers are everyday people who want one of our multivitamins or some extra vitamin C. I take pride in the fact that I'm different from most other sales associates at GNC and don't feed the customer a bunch of bull. Several customers have been real appreciative of the diet advice and supplement advice I've given. A kid came in yesterday wanting to stack all these supplements together that were totally worthless and I talked him out of it and talked diet for a good 30 minutes. He left with protein and a multivitamin. So why don't you think before you speak next time, and by the way, the gold card's free if a customer spends over 80 dumbass.

Get over it. Don't have to get all defensive just because you work at GNC. Its an honest opinion, and even though you may be a smart employee there, it seems that there is 3 stupid ones for every knowledgable one.

GNC...Hahahaha...And the sales rep...Hahahaha... one thing is that most places online are WAAY cheaper than GNC. It'll take two days to get it shipped but big deal, plan ahead. Gnc has the worst selection of **** and then they charge what they do have to holy hell and back. I personally go to a store called R-Downs...this place is...I can't even put it into words how awsome it is. And the customer service is flipping amazing...all 4 of their sales rep have degree's in science or nutrition or both. The owner Dr. Downs has a Phd in nutrition and has written almost 12 books, and he's there 5 days a week. They know everybody by name and know exactly what you are looking for almost 90 percent of the time. I've never, ever once in my almost 7 year history of shopping for supps been to a GNC that I left happy. I've been to one GNC that had a cool rep but that was only one. GNC blows, and they blow big time. Besides, the best place for bodybuilding anything is the Super-Market and of course Super-Wal-Mart. and everybody has a wal-mart.

I lucked out and found a Vitamin Shoppe a few miles down the raod from my house, so I will be going there on a regular basis. I was going to a place called Max Muscle, which I do like, but the are quite pricy, but their stuff does work. I went to GNC the other day and they didn't have Animal Stak 2, but they did have the regular Animal Pak and Animal Cuts, they were asking $40.00 for each. Ridiculous!

I don't go to GNC anymore, It's like going to a car dealership. They try to get you to come out with whatever they want you to buy rather than what you want. I don't even like walking past them.

When i first started working out back in January, i went up to GNC with one my buddies who had been working out for 2 years. Anyways, this guy workin there tried to sell me Cell-Tech as a whey protein source. Luckily my friend was there to point out to the Employee that cell-tech is a creatine source, and for his lack of knowledge he gave me an employee discount on some GNC protein. I just think GNC should give some sort of exam dealing with the products before they hire some of the people they do. I've seen punk rock kids working at a GNC before, and i don't even bother asking them questions about products.

It's like working at McDonalds or Burger King. Take your order. Would you like Fries with that... Anyone can work there in GNC's eyes.

Got No Clue..

Now that I have been laughing my ass off for who knows how long reading this tread, I think I have to throw my two cents in.

A general rule to live by is this…Listen to people that look like how you want to look. If I want to “bulk up” and get some large lean muscles, obviously I would listen to some big dude who obviously looks like he works out, compared to some twiggy looking girl. Don’t get me wrong, the twiggy looking girl might be good to give advice to girls losing weight and stuff, but how the hell is she going to give me advice that her genetics will never let her do?
This applies to everything…If you want to lose weight, don’t listen to the fat person. If you want to boost your testosterone, don’t listen to the lady. If you want to gain muscle, don’t listen to the tooth pick.

Vitamin Shoppe is better than GNC
BodyBuilding dot com is better than Vitamin Shoppe.

There is a Franchise GNC where i live and the guy in there is HUGE, the first thing i asked him was what was he using in the store. He showed me 2 items and told me to go to a website to get them for 50-70% cheaper i was actually in shock.. They were marked for 75$ in the store and on the site they were 38$ including shipping,

Yeah AlteredBeast, I have a place like that near my house as well...Those are rare and hard to come by sometimes. Though, your place sounds a little better.

GNC = **** at a very high price.

Vitamin Shoppe = Large selection, ok prices, good advice (sometimes)

Bodybuilding dot com = Everything!...Cheap...reliable...

Mom and pop type supplement stores = might be more expensive, but if you find the right one...hella good advice. (They have to have something over large brand stores)

MaxMuscle = Good advice, a little bit more pricey....and steroids if you go in the back...no seriously...look back there!!

Exactly. Go to a reputable source and research. Never take a salespersons advice on anything. They have one goal....SALE!

Now you also have to understand pricing. I wouldnt necessarily buy a product from a local store if I could get it significantly cheaper online. But there is a reason the pricing difference is that drastic. Most online stores dont have the overhead these local chain stores have. This allows them to have much cheaper prices that these chains just cant compete with.
I do buy a few things locally that arent that much more expensive than purchasing online. A few bucks dont really matter to me sometimes, but if its quite a bit then its definitely online purchase. ALso there are items you just cant get locally you have to purchase online.

the bloke is a nutritionist so i am more on the believing side still taking everything into consideration.
ive been there 4- 5 times with different mates needing help to buy supps. and every time ive been there he practically forces me to buy "horse power" creatine. "no other creatine is better atm"
