I am just now starting out in weight lifting and would like some advice and the starter supplements to use.
I do not intend to compete but would like to be bigger and stronger while keeping or growing my endurance.

I have read some articles on protien and find their suggestions scary to say the least.
Doing their math, I need to consume 180-300 grams of protien a day.
This seems a bit insane.
Can someone clarify this for me.

I am currently taking L-Glutamine (but am unsure of its effects or purpose other then to keep my body from self canniblizing - though I need this as I work 12-18 hours a day in the oil field doin very hard labor and sometimes without eating for long periods of time) and advanced whey protien from 5 star. Usually 1-2 shakes a day with lots of add-ons like frozen strawberries, peanutbutter and bananas.
I also try to take a amino tablet once or twice during a long work day, Body Fortress Premium Amino 3000.

Thanks.

First off, keep reading. That is the best thing to do.

Clarifing for you..1.5-2grms of protein per LBM (Lean Body Mass). Take your weight and bodyfat percentage. Deduct you BF% to get an accurate LBM. Multiply the number by 1.5. That's the amount of Protein you should be consuming everyday ...preferably in clean foods.

Hey Bro,

With your job, id reccomend BCAA's, such as ICE by Xtreme Formulations, and some HMB powder (search the net), these should help prevent muscle wasting with your job. I'd also try to make it so you can snack throughout the day, preferably real food, but protein bars are a decent substitute.

Don't worry about the whole x grams of protein, just try to eat a couple chicken breasts or eggs a day, with whey protein after a workout and that will be fine, big thing is try to get a lot of calories, especially if you burn a lot.

Keep adding the fruit, it's amazing for overall health, i go through bags of frozen berries in shakes like its going out of style.

Glutamine isnt that great, it's muscle building properties are slim to nil, but its good for the immune system, which may help you. If you can afford it, keep it, if not, no big loss.
