The active ingredient in most NO products is arginine alpha ketogluterate, which, in short, stimulates the smooth endothelial tissue of the blood vessels to release nitric oxide into the blood, thus dilating them. In theory, this is supposed to increase blood flow to the working muscles, increasing the pump and brining substrates into the muscle to allow them to recover and grow faster. The problem is, none of that is really conclusive, and the biggest problem is that when you increase the size of a blood vessel, you decrease the blood pressure, which may artificially elevate heart rate, which for some people puts them in an undesireable state.
I personally don't see much practical use for NO products in terms of actual muscle growth and recovery. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.
