I've started my first cutting phase and have a question. I'm emphasizing low-glycemic carbs but I have heard contradicting advice on pre and post-workout carbs. Some say to keep the simple carbs pre and post workout as they are still needed for the insulin spike during a cutting phase and some have told to drop all simple carbs altogether. What do you guys think???

Complex seems to work fine for me during post workout (in a contest diet only) but it seems that most evidence points towards high GI carbs (even though none of the studies I have found are speaking about cutting/contest diets).

If I remember right, you don't compete. Either way, what is your take on a contest diet and high GI carbs pwo?

First off, simple carbs are never necessary pre-workout.

Secondly, it is important to continue using high GI carbohydrates post-workout. However, you should lower the amount you consume while dieting.

I crash during my workout if I have high GI carbs preworkout. 1 cup of oat meal and about a cup of egg whites 90 to 120 min preworkout is what i found works best. Far as PWO, IMO a dextro/malto mix is the best. **click here**
