Anyone here use maltodextrose or dextrose supplements? I recently read a contest prep article suggesting to have a shake consiting 35-40 g of maltodextrin or dextrose with 20-30 g protein to spare muscle tissue. Just wondering if you have tried it, hows the taste with a good tasting protein shake like Optimum 100% whey?

I think alot of people use it, including me.

But I hate to say it, I don't know if it's the right thing, I read some shocking things about it yesterday, I'll post it in a seperate thread when I have the time.

"Therefore, maltodextrin at 3-20 monosaccharide links, is very easily digested. Once absorbed from the small intestines into the bloodstream, the body uses glucose for 3 potential tasks..." True... but i don't mean dextrose coz glucose is glucose and upon further inspection of my packet of Glucose it states - "glucose is the only type of sugar that is directly absorbed into the bloodstream" So in that case it seems dextrose gets converted into glucose?

I'm surprised that it seems you have never bought plain glucose before off the shelves...

It says Glucose at the front, it gives descriptions of glucose and advises when glucose should be taken to benefit different physical activities and states, no mention of dextrose whatsoever.

INGREDIENTS = GLUCOSE That's all

If dextrose = glucose then why bother having two names for it? It could possibly refer to change of state??

Dextrose has many other names, glucose, blood sugar etc.

Taking it will give an immediate rise to blood glucose levels (GI) causing a state of hyperglycemia.
