Adolescence.
The recent tragedies that spurred these investigations involved late adolescent males, yet provoked widespread condemnations of AAS. Problems among adolescent drug users cannot inform issues of adult use (or vice-versa); adolescents are not simply younger adults. Adolescent brains are in transition into the early twenties (Spear, 2000a); these changes initiate and guide the processes normally associated with adolescent/pubertal development (e.g., see Dahl & Spear, 2004). As the brain develops toward its adult configuration, it is awash in endogenous hormones and neuro-chemicals with long-term organizational and functional effects. Drugs that affect this developmental process by impacting these endogenous systems, whether legal, legally prescribed or illicit, can disrupt this process, exerting lasting effects (e.g., Spear, 2000b; Spear, 2002). Testosterone analogs are no exception; androgens have strong organizing effects on the central nervous system (Romeo, 2003). Any drug use, licit or illicit, by adolescents is risky and can have persistent negative effects.

Brower has commented that suicide is the third leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds and suggested that "This…age group…is already at high risk…when you add steroids you are increasing the risk of suicide (University of Michigan Health Systems, 2005)." As noted above, a vast array of individual characteristics, related to both negative affect and risk taking, are associated with increased suicide risk in this age group, including the use of many substances (e.g., alcohol, CSAP, 2002; prescription antidepressants; Garland, 2004).

If you are in your teens and thinking of using aas, please think again, you have your whole life ahead of you, dont screw it up by taking them when your body and brain hasn't yet fully developed, if you still wont listen, you will have to deal with the consequences. Take it from someone who has many ongoing psychological problems, (from brain damage I sustained in an accident) suicidal behaviour and other behavioural problems are not nice thing to have to cope with.

Man, can I ever verify this. The temptation is to gain a little muscle, but the long-term psycholgical effects are well beyond description. One major problem I have is I have to make myself like people in the real world on a daily basis. Its a major drag along with other problems. The horrible things it can do to a developing endocrine system.

Everytime I engage a person under 21 about this, I always get at least one of the same 4 replies, my friends are doing it, nothing will happen to me (age is just a number), Ive researched them, and Im taking small doses. To make a long story short, I pay for it daily mentally and phsyically. If I could go back and change it, I would. My problems are rather modest to some people. People will see what I am talking about when they get older. Learn from my foolish mistake. One of the mental aspects affect my job and interacting with people. I wish this type of info was available to me when I was younger, it would have likely changed my mind to wait. If I can just reach one person with this info, then I feel bettter. :)

Serb in an ideal world know one would use steroids or growth hormones. What I think people should realize is if you go down that track then use your brain and get medical assistance with your program. Don't even contemplate doing it on your own see a doctor first who is willing to help with your goals. They are qualified and will help you from going through painful mistakes. (regular check ups ect)

Or you could just stay natural and save money afterall you can build a great physique with out performance enhancers through proper diet and nutrition.

It all depends on your goals. I think the problem with teens is they think it's the only way to build muscle but with out trainning and nutrition there wasting there time. Drugs assist they don't build muscle.

Just some of my thoughts

Agreed. They think they are going to be on the cover of Muscle & Fitness after a couple of cycles. Plus the quick size and any androgenic sides with them makes you feel great and invincible. I personally think its a small penis thing.....oh wait, strike that last comment.

I beg to differ. Testosterone DOES build muscle, it's one of it's primary functions in our organism. Of course there's a limit to what it can do - if you don't eat it won't build anything out of thin air - but if you eat enough drugs do build muscle, period. If you don't lift and cycle (as long as you have a proper diet) you'll grow. Very slowly, but you'll grow. If you are indeed lifting drugs will double, even triple the rate at which your muscles repair and grow. Saying steroids don't build muscle is the same as saying gas doesn't burn - it doesn't if all the required elements aren't present (protein and carbs in the steroid case, oxigen in the gas case), but it they are, oh man it burns.

*groan* Not again. Test increases nitrogen synthesis, it does not build muscle.

I was about to ask this very question. You seem to have some pretty whacked out views on things, which must be why you post them at BBD and pretend to be an intellectual. If you said this or other things Ive heard you think and state like are fact, you would be laughed out of the forum and very likely banned. However, your nonsensical info seems to be tolerated here, which is why Im not going to acknowledge any reply from you. It sad you have a very wrong and simplistic view of BBing, yet you parade around here like you have a clue as to what you are talking about. I know better and its sad. Good luck. :) I already know your reply will be right (if I get one).

Are you insane? Do you drink heavily before you log on? This would explain it.

Oh not this shit again

Look son I'm not even gonna bother explaining any further, I made it clear in my first post. If you don't like hearing it from me go ask a doctor of the effects of testosterone, or any anabolic steroid for that matter (have you ever even stopped for a while and asked yourself just why it's called "anabolic"?). Or better yet, find someone who doesn't lift and give him a good diet and a good cycle.

Geez, test doesn't build muscle, this one definetly takes the cake

I guess it's impossible for someone who doesn't lift to gain muscle mass then. I wonder why all the guys I know started slowly but steadily getting thicker about midway through puberty
