i dont homebrew at all bro, wish i did, but this was posted on another board, hope it helps
Alright first things first. The numbers I am going to use can be changed by the user at any given time using the Powder calculator located on this page. So let?s just get right into it shall we?
What you?re going to need
1. Powder
2. Syringe filters
3. BA (Benzyl Alcohol)
4. BB (Benzyl benzoate)
5. Flat stove top pan
6. Empty vials
7. Syringes
8. Fresh oil
9. Glass beaker
10. Thermostat
Alright so set your flat stove top pan on one of your burners and turn it on to 6-7 (or just over medium burn). Pour a layer of water on the pan as to cover the whole surface but nothing really deep. Place the beaker then onto the water covered pan.
At this point you should have used the powder calculator to calculate the right amount of oil, BA & BB you will need. So pour in your allotted amount of oil into the beaker. Then place the thermostat into the oil. The thermostat should sit in the oil during the rest of this process as to keep the temperature correct and it helps to stir the oil with it later.
Once the oil comes to 160 degrees slowly bring the heat down on the burner a bit. Continue to stir the oil to make sure the entire batch is set and warm. Now pour in your powder compound. This once again should have already been pre weighted (IE 25 grams will yield 100ml @ 250mg/ml) Put the powder compound in pieces at a time, not all at once. Once you start putting the compound into the oil continue to stir the oil with the thermostat to help break it down into the oil. Once all the powder has been put into the oil continue to stir till you no longer see any compound and the oil reverts back to its regular state. You might think this isn?t going to happen but it will slowly disperse into the heated oil. Make sure your oil stated around 160 degrees during this entire process. Now that you have the powder mixed in with the oil you can now remove the vial from the stove top pan as the oil will stay around 160 long enough to add the BA & BB.
Using a syringe draw out the needed amount of BA & BB in different syringes. Then add the BA to the oil one syringe at a time. While adding these don?t forget to stir the oil with the thermostat and DO NOT add the BB until you see that the BA has dispersed into the oil and the oil looks normal again. Then add the BB and follow the same process. (IE add the BB, stir with thermostat until dispersed)
That process is pretty quick and easy and your oil should still be fairly hot. So while it cools down a bit get ready for the VERY annoying part. I go out of my way to buy 10-20ml syringes to make this process take less time. Using 3ml syringes to filter 100ml worth of gear is a pain in the ass. Get out your syringe filters. A lot of people use .45u Whatman because it works well with oil but I use another. It?s your choice.
If you have pre sealed vials make sure you stick an extra pin into the stomper as to let out air. I don?t use pre sealed vials it?s easier. Draw the oil out of the beaker and into the syringe. Attach the syringe filter to the end of your syringe and press the oil into the filter then out into your new vials. You will notice that the first time you do this it takes 2ml of oil to fill up the filter before any oil comes out. So with this in mind don?t forget that after you push all your oil (100ml or whatever) through the syringe filter to go back and pull 2ml worth of regular oil into the syringe and push that oil then into your filter to get your 2ml worth of gear out that will be remaining in the filter.
You are now done. I am going to answer a couple things real fast that I didn?t cover because this guide is getting real long and in depth.
1. MOST syringe filters are only good for between 50-100ml worth of gear. So buy a couple extra. Crashed filters will piss you off if it crashes and you still have gear left.
2. The type of oil you use doesn?t really matter. Keeping the oil at 160 during the compounding process keeps it clean.
3. Make sure you use a glass/pirex see through beaker to hold the hot gear. A Wal-Mart brand shitty glass measuring cup/glass vial will crack under the heat.
Lastly, this is just a rough guideline, I must stress that I didn?t go into exact amount of the compound because every person is different and I wanted this to work with everyone. Make sure you use the powder calculator to figure out the exact amount of BA, BB and Oil you are going to need with your powder prior to starting anything |
