Just a few thoughts after reading this thred. i guess the main reason is why exactly are the reasons why guys take them? to me i just want to go as far as my natural limits will allow, if thats as far as i am now then so be it. i guess maybe i am scared of doing them but i love working out, going thru a routine working to a plan and getting a pump and its working so why would you need them? unless gains have come so few and far between people decide to use them...i can understand why say an olympic lifter would use them for trying to get a gold medal in the olympics - but that is on par with the olympia in terms of as high as you can go. so using it for a bbuilding comp seems a bit silly if its not something rather big. there are alot worse things like other drugs and yeah alcohol and smoking as 2 big ones, but really, as bodybuilders, guys who understand the importance of a healthy body, how to eat healthy and properly, and how positive lifting weights is for our body, it just seems like using these substances goes against why we lift weights in the first place. its great to be huge and big and strong as fuck but to me personally it would just feel fake, there are alot of thigs to help you, but i dont think roids could be soething id let to help me.

for some people bodybuilding is not just about staying healthy or going to gym and getting a pump and feeling good afterwards... juicers are a totally different breed of bodybuilders with different expectiations and goals (in my opinion...)

yes i agree. bb's are a different breed of people. it all comes down to how bad do you want it? how far do you want to go? and...what risks are you willing to take to get there? you have to remember that its not just bb's that use steriods or any other type of lifting sport. football and baseball players use them. a lot of people use them to be honest. I know of quite a few people that use them that have no plans to compete in anything. They just want the gains but dont ahve the time to consistantly get in teh gym.

Chet Yorton felt bodybuilding was headed in the wrong direction. He attempted to provide competition opportunities for those who chose not to use steroids, and he attempted to make those athletes the role models children looked up to by featuring them in the magazine he launched.

After all, shouldn't the athletes who don't compromise their health, or break the law be the real role models? Aren't they... as Chet Yorton himself said at that first drug-tested competition in 1975, "the real champions"?

Chet Yorton was basically the founder of natural bodybuilding, and to honor him, the first OCB (Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders) Championships held November 13, 2004 in Raleigh, NC started a tradition. The overall male and female bodybuilding champions were awarded the first annual Yorton Cups.

Each year the championship will award identical trophy cups. And each year's winner will be engraved on one of the awards plaques so subsequent awards contain a historical record of all its previous recipients. The 2005 Yorton Cup's will be awarded November 12th in Miami, FL. Details on the event can be found online at

Good information in this post. Personally, i would not use steroids (age and also my personal ethuical issues), but why hate on those that do? Hell, we all bodybuild/powerlift...(resistance train) on this thread, so why try to challenge each other all the time and try to belittle an individual or individuals because they choose to live their life differently, are we all not after the same goal in the scheme of things? The only part of this thread i have an issue with is this quote by pumpingiron: "There will always be 2 kind of people. Those who have tried using gear, and those who are too scared to in the bb environment". Too scared to be in the bodybuilding environment if you don't use steroids? Please, clear this up for me pumping iron and tell me exactly what you meant by this comment, as i would not like to have a rant about this narrow minded comment (if it is how it looks) unless i know the full story and the exact context. its as dangerous or as safe as the person using them.
eg: (insert smart bb'ers name here) he is well read when it comes to steroids and has done a couple of successfull cycles himself. he has no side effects because he is responsible and safe.

but then we have (insert stupid bb'ers name here) who just thought whenever he felt he was too small in a certain area he would just inject right there, any doesage he thought would cure the problem. he dident know how to use them propely, so he ended fucked.

The truth is too much of anything can hurt you, and if you do something the right way it can lessen or eliminate effects. Stupid people that use steroids get the worst of the effects, especially the people that think "Buy a steroid, inject for 3 months then i'm safe afterwards". I know people that juiiced in my gym that went through NO post cycle therapy and loss most of their results.
