It seems as though a lot of people are dissatisfied with the repetitive nature of the business today(myself being one of them), so I thought we could get a little nostalgic here. Here's how it works:
Remember when a stupid, repetitive story wasn't needed to grant an athlete purpose? When his mere presence was enough to get the fans rilled up for his match? Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to happen anymore. I've been a fan of the sport for most of my life, albeit a young one, yet I remember those days well. I'm interested to see what the rest of you think concerning this, hence this thread. Work up a top five list of your favorite SINGLE entrances of all time(not entrance themes or current style of entrance for a wrestler, as those have already been done here on the forums). One of those entrances that made you lean forward with that, "Holy crap, that was cool" look on your face. Honorable mentions are most definitely allowed, as I know I'll have a few. Let's get a real sense of history rolling here.
#5-The Ultimate Warrior's entrance when he ended the Honky Tonk Man's I-C title reign-Even though I'm much less a fan of his now, that was still awesome. Chills nailed me hard, even as a kid, when his music hit after the Honky Tonk Man's open challenge.
#4-All three men(Triple H, Michaels, and Benoit) for the triple threat match at Wrestlemania 20- I know I'm breaking the rules a bit here, but this was simply one of the most incredible matches I've been blessed to see. The buildup was so strong for it; each man coming to the ring had my full and undivided attention. The story took a back seat to the men though; All three of these men are undeniable legends with a lot of memorable entrances, but to have all three at once was definitely an occassion to remember.
#3-Triple H's return entrance on RAW- This was amazing. Even though they had highlighted the fact that he was coming on(after recovering from his serious quad tear), the crowd was going insane. When his music hit and he struted out, every second of it was burned into my mind. I remember he hit the posts for nearly three minutes before the place quieted down enough for him to talk. Going onto win the Rumble that year was icing on the cake.
#2-Chris Jericho's RAW Debut- Interrupting the Rock will always give someone points in my book, especially when he'd go on another cliche one-liner streak, this time about the Big Show. The Millenium Clock came out of nowhere, and after the countdown hit, the lights cut out, and Jericho's music started to roll. Since no one really knew who the music belonged to, when his name flashed up on the Titan-Tron the Chicago crowd went insane. One of the greatest impact/surprise moments of all time in my mind.
#1-Sting's entrance at Starcade '97-I can't really say anything to give this one justice. Both men are two of the biggest names in the sport, and as such they delivered beyond anyone's expectations, and that was before the match even started. When Sting walked out and just stood there...words fail to describe the impact. When you don't even need to speak to make people go insane to see you wrestle, that's when you know you're a true icon. As such, my number one single entrance of all time.
Honorable Mentions-Steamboat at Wrestlemania 5, The debut of the Radicals in the WWE, Hogan at Wrestlemania 3, and Piper and Flair at Slamboree '97.
