WHO SHELTON BENJAMIN WAS ON THE PHONE WITH LAST NIGHT AND MORE RAW NOTES
by Mike Johnson @ 11:05:00 AM on 12/27/2005
The Shelton Benjamin phone call vignette last night on Raw will lead to the debut of "his mother" on next week's episode from East Rutherford, New Jersey. As noted a few weeks back in Raw, WWE put out a casting call in Los Angeles looking for, "SHELTON BENJAMIN'S MAMA / Co-Star / Female / African Am / 50-60 Shelton Benjamin's Mama - 50's, Black, heavy set, good personality, willing to travel." The casting call said that the character would be used three to six months, so based on last night, it appears they found their "Mama."
I believe it was Matt Striker performing as the "voice of Ric Flair" during the Cutting Edge segment.
WWE champion John Cena vs. Kurt Angle is a First Blood match has been announced for next week's live Raw, while local advertising has also pushed Cena vs. HHH. It's interesting to note that the localized ads for Raw also promote appearances by Joey Styles, Jerry Lawler, and Jonathan Coachman.
The Outcast Killaz, who have worked for JAPW, PWU, and Ring of Honor in the past, received a tryout yesterday before the Raw taping in Bridgeport, CT and will likely receive one prior to this week's Smackdown taping as well. Former ROH champion Xavier was also backstage at last night's Raw taping. All three appeared briefly as security guards during the John Cena-Kurt Angle pullapart.
The Connecticut Post has an article looking at Raw taping last night in Bridgeport, CT in today's edition. You can check it out online at this link. The article features a look at the fandom that attended the show, which was legitimately sold out, noting it was mostly males. |
