Strikeforce: Fedor VS Rogers TONIGHT

First let me say something about Strikeforce. They do not have the talent pool that the UFC has, no one else does. With that in mind Strikeforce has up and comers that sometimes make for exciting fights. This event is particularly interesting because the Fedor v Rogers fight is not for the strikeforce title and Strikeforce lets Alistair Overreem, a man who has not defended his title for years, keep it.

Fedor vs Rogers

As far as Fedor goes, I know there are alot of Fedor fans but I can't see him ranked number 1 because of the quality of fighters he has put away in his last set of 10, right now I really like Big Nog for number 1 in the world based on who hes beat and faced in his last ten. This fight does nothing for his record as Rogers really has nothing going for him except for a win against Arlovksi who most likely just wanted a pay day. For Rogers, if he wins, he doesn't really get any more regard in the MMA world.

What Fedor needs to do to win is simple, either get in and knock him out or take it to the ground and submit him. Rogers doesn't have great wrestling which is good for Fedor who tends to get taken down by wrestlers, but never gets taken advantage of both on part of his skill and their lack thereof. Fedor in that way reminds me of Bas Rutten, Bas had to be one of the top strikers in the world but was prone to get taken down.

Rogers needs to hope and pray that he lands a strong hit or can pin fedor and wear him out then land a big hit.

Middleweight Championship Jake Shields vs Jason Miller

I'm going with Jake Shields, I think he will out wrestle Miller and get superior position. Or just wrestle him and Submit him. Shields has been building alot of steam his past ten fights finishing his last 8 out of ten fights against some legit guys.

I think Miller is going to need to draw out the fight and hope for a decision, I honestly don't see him taking it.

Gegard Mousasi vs Sokoudjou

Definitely a fight I want to see. If you guys don't know these two fighters they both are top guys, big KO power from both of them. I really don't know who i'm going to toss it to but i'll go with Mousasi. Mousasi has walked through his last opponents, finishing Sobral in 1 minute flat. I see Mousasi being able to get the edge over Sokoudjou but theres always the potential for it to go either way.

Fabricio Werdrum vs Antonio Silva

Going with Silva, I haven't paid much attention to these two but i'll go with Silva.

Undercard, dont know anyone.

I agree with you Thomas..... The way I see it is If Fedor can figure out how to beat up a PRIME Crop-cop then Rogers is a joke, ya know? I've seen Fedor get rocked once in his carrier and he recovered in less than 10 seconds, and the won by RNC..... Fedor is just too good, too fast, and too experienced for some 280lb guy. Rogers is over confident because he beat an out of prime A.A. We will see tonight thought. I agree that Shields will win, but Im pulling for Mayhem.

Rogers really doesn't have the ability to exploit the things that Fedor does have weaknesses in. Fedor tends to cut easily and he gets taken off of his feet easy when hes grappled, Matt Linland was at a severe weight disadvantage and was able to catch him. I don't think Rogers will try to strike a smart game and keep Fedor at distance.

Silva vs Werdum

Round 1: Silva gets this round 10-9, perhaps a 10-8 depending on the judges. He knocked down Werdum, dodged alot of kicks, got out of all bad situations on the cage. The much more effective striker and let him stand when he was on the ground.

Round 2: Would score it a 10-9 Werdum for his aggressiveness and takedowns.

Werdum lured Silva into the ground and took advantage But Silva effectively got up and didnt take much damage while on the ground. He had werdum against the cage, it was switched around but it was ineffective on both sides. Werdum secured a takedown late into the second, werdum threathened with a kimura, rolled to a knee bar, Silva survived and escaped.

Round 3: Werdum 30-29.

Both men looked a little gassed. Werdum let out a short kick and Silva responded with a visually more powerful kick and tried to get into a thai plum. Both men wind up against the cage, nothing happens. Shoot attempt by werdum, Silva lands in turtle position, werdum on top, silva stands up, eats a knee, back into cage clinch. Werdum lands some good kicks, gets another takedown and lands in half guard.

Guessing Werdum 29*-28

Mousasi vs Soukoujdou

Round 1: I would give it to Mousasi 10-9, Soukoujou did nothing when he got Mousasi down, Mousasi was the more effective striker and swept Sokoudjou

Round 2: 10-8 Sokoudjou did nothign in this round except reverse one trip where he got reversed into a bad position.

Fight stopped MOUSASI!

Miller did well considering who he was fighting against, Shields used a really unique hybrid of Bjj and amateur wrestling, it was interesting to watch the fight.

Not to play down his win, but he showed some definite holes in his game that no strikeforce guys are equipped to take advantage of.

Well for a 4 inch disadvantage, 40lb disadvantage, and an undefeated fighter I would say Fedor did a great job, but I was nervous a few times Im not gonna lie.

Rogers made poor use of his reach and weight in the second round haha. SEriously though they don't have any other top contenders in showtime, ufc needs to swipe fedor up.

As far as the main and co-main event goes.

Shields need to step up his stand up game, a better striker than Mayhem would've put him down. Shields also needs to get in the mode of finishing top positions on the ground. I know he had to bulk up to make it there but big holes he needs to fix up.

Mayhem looked good on his feet but desperately needs to work on preventing takedowns and throwing shots that can't be countered into a takedown so easily.

Brett Rogers. Obviously he can be knocked out, he needs more discipline, needs to go for the kill and needs to take advantage when he has someone on the cage. Rogers needs to finish fights, keep to his gameplan, take advantage on the cage against a smaller opponent, all in all he needs to make leaps and bounds.

Fedor like I said before only has two downsides, he cuts easily and wrestlers can take him down easily. In strikeforce he doesn't have to worry about wrestlers at all. Stikeforce has a weird dichotomy of heavy weights, you either have heavy weights that can cut to light heavy, fedor, hershal walker (if you really want to consider him a legitimat efighter, which I dont), Silva, Comier, Kyle and Werdum along with true heavy weights that cut down from 265. But no great wrestlers with good stand up and ground game.

He won't lose in strikeforce and in my opinion the only type of fighter that will actually finish fedor will be a large, athletic wrestler with good stand up that knows how to wear an opponent down.

Not a bad card at all from strikeforce, I was surprised.

I was listening to O&A a while back and they actually had Fedor on there. They said that Fedor has been in negotiations to fight in the UFC for a long time now, but they can't really get anything set in stone yet.

Fedor is a part owner of M-1 global, M-1 Global manages Fedor (weird, huh?). M-1 global wanted to co-promote all ufc events with Fedor. By co-promote, they split half of the promotion costs and get half of the revenue. Obviously Dana and the Fertitas won't let this happen. That would put the money in fedors and m-1 globals pocket close to the millions every time he fights.

I realize how much I like UFC when I see other organizations put on MMA fights. Bruce Buffer and Joe Rogan really make a huge difference.

Those announcers were subpar, if you noticed they got soukujous name wrong. One of them kept calling him Sojuku.

lmO yeah I heard that. I was really shocked as well by how good the fight card was. I mean i Knew they would be entertaining but I had no idea how good of a night it turn out to be.
