UFC 69: Shootout Predictions

UFC 69 Predictions:

GSP vs. Matt Serra: GSP

GSP is the most complete mma fighter in the UFC regardless of weight class. If Matt couldn’t get/keep GSP down, good luck to Serra. I think Serra will have the same problem Hughes did. GSP is fine on the ground should Serra get control or a mount. Nobody should be stupid enough to overlook Serra on the ground. First non-Brazilian to get a black belt from Renzo Gracie. I also believe that GSP is better conditioned.

Sanchez vs. Koscheck: Sanchez

Sanchez: Until he loses I will keep picking him. Explosive, better mma background/experience, better striking, submissions, and heart. No disrespect to Koscheck, if you are national champion at anything especially wrestling.. props! He has a bright future in mma but Saturday will go to Diego.

Roger Huerta vs. Leonard Garcia: Roger

Roger (more exp/better record)

Okami vs. Swick: Swick

Swick: He does not have as much experience but he has been on a roll lately and until he lets me down he has my vote. He does not look as “big”/athletic as one might expect for 185lbs but he is very talented.

Kendall Grove vs. Alan Belcher: Grove.

I believe you learn more from your losses than wins and with their record so close I have to give this one to Kendall. He has a definite reach, training with Team Punishment and has lethal elbows. Grove also has a definite reach advantage and has shown great heart in his fights.

Brad Imes vs. Heath Herring: Herring

I don’t like what I have seen from either of these fighers lately. Both look lazy and inexperienced although they both have some experience. Herring has more experience and his last fight was not a good representation imo of his skills.

Thales Leites vs. Pete Sell: Sell

Sell: Another tough one to predict just because I have not seen Leites fight and have only seen a few Pete Sell fights. I am going to go with Pete Sell because he has fought some tough opponents and 2 of his losses came when he was really new to the sport and one of those was to Nate Quarry.

Marcus Davis vs. Pete Spratt: Marcus Davis

Marcus Davis: has a better record for a stacked 170 class. Pete Spratt is very athletic but lacks the gut instincts in the ring imo. Spratt has faced very tough competition namely: Chris Lytle, GSP, Robbie Lawler, & Carlos Newton.

Luke Cummo vs. Josh Haynes: Luke Cummo

Without a doubt Luke Cummo. He is a very methodical and intelligent fighter. Both guys have huge hearts and can take a pounding. Josh Haynes has shed a lot of body fat and is looking in much better condition but he does not have the tools to finish a fight.

I agree other than the Swick fight...Okami has some fast hands and a good ground and pound.

Herring should destroy Imes, I don't know wtf was wrong with him last fight...

Like who? If they fight in a small event we aren't going to see them. If they make it to UFC/Pride we can check them out.

btw do you have any vids of the British fighters? Also, do you have any vids of your bro's fights, that would be awesome.

I agree Mindstar, Swick will have a tough fight but he has really impressed me so until he loses I'm not going to bet against him.

I'm thinking in the back of my mind this scenario:

The fight goes to the ground and Swick is on his back, some people can do great things regardless of the position (full guard, half guard, etc...) Others basically have to have full guard to ground and pound whereas Tito will rock you with elbows in half guard. That is what I am afraid might be the case with Okami.. he might be like Tito.

im sure a few brits will make it big in the ufc. we have a guy called david lee who's a british lightweight...& very good fighter but alot still to gain. he's making his debut sometime this month so watch out for him...

i'll ask my bro for some vids, i know he has a few somewhere...

Yeah I think so. Not in competition though only for testing. The last time I tested was 8 yrs. ago. I am not active in it anymore.. I don't attend classes but continue to stretch and do the forms just so I don't forget. It's a showoff martial art, not really applicable that's why I stopped doing it.

What do you think about my predictions for UFC 69 LBJ?

Last night I watched the events leading up to the Koscheck vs. Sanchez fight.. they were good friends and even on the same team (blue, Chuck Liddell). The fight was much closer than I remembered. I really don't think much has changed in the way the fight will go down.

Koscheck was able to control where the fight went but wasn't able to do anything on the groud. Diego was more versatile but wasn't able to submit Koscheck. I just hope the fight isn't as quick as Guillard vs. Stevenson the other night... Stevenson got paid 32k for a 26 second fight :)
