Rich Franklin's injury rehab is coming along pretty well, according to the champ himself. Franklin suffered two broken hands and a busted-up ankle in his last fight against David Loiseau at UFC 58 back in March.
Franklin had a metal plate and seven screws inserted into his right hand to repair the damage that he sustained.
The champion had this to say on his web site, RichFranklin.com, about his recovery and rehabilitation process:
"The surgery on my hand seems to have taken well, and it is healing rather quickly. We have begun an intense rehab program on my ankle for stabilization purposes, and I have completed the rehab program for my hand. I have been able to ride a bicycle and do an elliptical machine, and will be clear to run and possibly roll lightly next week. I can drill my jiu-jitsu and shadow-box. I started using my hand for lifting last week, but I will not be able to actually punch something until June."
The UFC originally said that they expected Franklin to return to action in September, and it looks like that timeframe might end up being accurate. However, that's still just an estimate, and a more precise return date will not be known by anyone until Franklin is able resume full-fledged training and sparring.
