not going to call you crazy bro, but you gotta remember that each is weak or strong in different lifts, if thats his max, than there is nothing wrong with that, its his max, while you or myself my see it differently it has no bearing on what someone else can max , DEnd44 keep working toward getting your strength up and keeping your form good, it will come, just takes a different amount of time for each person to finally break through and things will start to fall into place, stay motivated and consistent, good luck with your training.

I do Sldl on leg day right after squats and I do reg deads on back day. Seems to work out fine. I think if you did them both the same day you would really strain your lower back.

OP, drop the weight and nail your form. Forget about how many plates are on the bar and learn how to do the movement.

In related content, I use a trap bar now for deads, so it's a little more quad dominant... but I looooove it. I train deads 5x5 on leg day, followed by front squats.

Yeah I was doing the trap bar dead for a while and I thought I would go back and give the straight bar a shot and I have to say so far I prefer the straight bar because I can really feel it more in my back. Not just the lower back but my entire back. I just work the hell out of my quads on leg day so it's overkill for me to do trap bar 3 days later.

I dunno, I just never really liked the 'feel' of conventional deads that much. It always seemed to be hitting my lower back more than anything else. Probably doesn't help that I have an almost irrational fear of hurting my lower back either...

One day I tried the trap bar and it felt great. If I keep my hips kinda high I can still target my back more than quads, but even when I drop into the hole for the start I feel it throughout my entire back.

in which case, either:
1. stretch
2. stop trying to stroke your ego and drop the weight to something you can handle

YOU SHOULD FEEL LIKE YOUR GOING TO FALL BACKWARDS TO A POINT!! IF A 200 POUND MAN GOES TO DEAD 400 POUNDS AND TIMES IT RIGHT AND KEEPS HIS BACK FLAT AND DOES NOT ROUND HIS SHOULDERS, THE WHEN YOU PULL YOU BE ABLE TO SUBTRACT YOUR BODYWEIGHT FROM THE BAR WEIGHT SO 400 SHOULD FEEL LIKE 200, IF YOU HAVE TIGHT HAMS DO COAN STIFF LEGS AND STRECH. Possibly try one of those bars made just for dead lifts with the middle formed around you.

Have you tried lifting sumo style? or are you sticking with conventional? Sumo style will give you the extra stability

actually, i love sumo style, but i know my back is wesk, so conventional deads were staple. now, i am trying the german volume training, with one difference- 5 sets of squats n 5 of deads, followed by 3 sldl sets n 2 leg curls.
