Focusing on strength, what do you guys recon is the best cardio activity?
I mean, I have my doubts about jogging, and the possible interference with recovery of the legs, am I right?
What about cycling and rowing machines?
And, as far as intensity goes, I am right to assume no high intensity training (stay in the fat burning frequence) is the way to go?

Thanks folks...

There are many,, the best one IMO is swimming.. jogging is a good one, pending weather conditions. I use an eliptical machine, I absolutely love it.. But I do a lot of different cardo excersizes to keep my body guessing and burning..

Id say for people really trying to gain size and mass later in life, swimming will pay massive dividends throughout. Water exercises are by far some of the best cardio for the joints and ligaments. Ever heard of someone tearing a hammy while swimming? I havent. Running on hard surfaces means alot of impact stress on joints and the entire body. Especially if you weigh alot.

Its also much more of a full body workout instead of just legs. Which means you are more likely to get your heart rate up. Personally, id do a form of HIIT in the water pending weather conditions. The only flaw with swimming though, is that you better make sure you dont over exert yourself and drown. Especially if you are a bigger guy.

I cant imagine a smallish lifeguard trying to grab a 230+ pound guy from the bottom of the pool.

Id say HIIT is the best way to go considering it has been shown in several studies to burn the largest amount of fat while losing the least amount of muscle. But, some people dont like the intensity of it and i cant argue the damage it does on the ligaments. Though, running for 20 minutes max is probably a bit better than just jogging for an hour.

That's for sure... And the heart rate goes way up before it even starts, heheheh Well, as far as swimming goes, I used to be quite into it, used to do "aquatic marathons", as they call it in Brazil... Don't know how you guys call it in english though... Anyway, in late 05, in a 4k, in Copacabana (I bet you guys know this name...) I developed a tendinitis in my right elbow, that took a very long time to heal (until late 06)... And I tried swimming after that and it nags me, so I'm laying off of it... Furthermore, being a newlywed, having a little trouble adjusting financially to the new situation, I have very limited funds to invest in my fitness, so I'm just lifting...
So my options for cardio are bike and treadmill in the gym, jogging or walking outdoors (but right now that's a bit of a problem, since where I live it rains most of the day, all day, this time of year, until march, kindda monssoonish) and a rowing machine I have at home...
Since I'm lifting thrice a week, the other days I'm rowing, so I have more time with my wife at home...
Thanks for the input, people...
