I might want to wait a bit until you start strong man. Maybe get your lifts a bit stronger(deadlift) and start doing some squats if possible. I started when i was 17 and i am 20 now. Try and add some overhead pressing into your workout.. having a strong press would be great! :)
Strongman is a great sport!

Yeah, overhead presses are a huge part of that sport, also you can do a lot of hack squats and deads to increase a lot of ur leg strength too.

Also, you may want to do a lot of grip exercises too. That's going to help you a lot.

I can imagine moving around or kicking and punching after a hard arm or leg workout... I feel for you buddy the first day you get sore and try to LOL.

Look at doing a split and see what you type of workout you can fit in your schedule, don't forget you also need to have rest/off day without workouts or training to help you recover.

Good luck

Overhead strength is certainly important, as there is often an overhead event, but the most important things are back, leg, arm and grip strength, probably in that order.

I would wait a while if I were you, get stronger and bigger in the gym before you start worrying about specific events training.

You're going to need access to a squat rack. Just keep plugging away until you're squatting and deadlifting decent numbers, then go from there.

Things is a lot of strongman events aren't progressive in nature. The weights are preset and you have to be strong enough to move them. E.g. it's hard to train how to flip an 800lb tire until you're strong enough.

quite right Mabo, lets not forget a strong man must have incredible shoulder power.... back, legs, shoulders and arms. not many strong man events use bench but the incline bench is very important to give a good chest to delt connection for good power. really its best just to get every ounce of your body as strong as possible with nothing held back. lift wierd objects... large stones...logs... cars and trucks if you want and make sure you have tough hands or the weight will sheer the flesh from the bone

toughen up your hands, and prolly also get some gym chalk

you can also work on your grip by putting as much as you can on a barbell in the squat rack and try and hold it as long as you can.

Wrist roller is a great exersize for forearm and grip strenth. It's a tube with rope tied to it with a weight hanging off it and using your hands you roll the tube which then lifts the weight.

If you don't have a squat rack try dumbell squats or single leg squats.

ummm, you know how you hold dumbbells for dumbbell shrubs?

well curl them to the inside of your wrists and if you wanna do extensor muscles curl them to the outside too.

it'll give your forearms a great pump and they'll get huge bro
