Overhead strength is certainly important, as there is often an overhead event, but the most important things are back, leg, arm and grip strength, probably in that order.
I would wait a while if I were you, get stronger and bigger in the gym before you start worrying about specific events training.
You're going to need access to a squat rack. Just keep plugging away until you're squatting and deadlifting decent numbers, then go from there.
Things is a lot of strongman events aren't progressive in nature. The weights are preset and you have to be strong enough to move them. E.g. it's hard to train how to flip an 800lb tire until you're strong enough. |
