It's not the lifts but the way they were tested.
The overhead lift was only 260lbs or thereabouts, with the top guys getting reps in the high teens. That's very light, and a test of endurance more than who has the strongest shoulders.
Both the deadlift and the squat lift were light in the heats, with many guys getting all 7 barrels and it coming down to time. Some of the times were limited to how quickly the barrels came out of the apparatus.
I have no problem with the way the deadlift was conducted in the final.
The stone platforms were absurdly high, with the guys under 6'4" having to press the first stone just to load it. And what was the heaviest stone, 350 or so? That's lighter than most local comps.
Compare that to the Arnold strongman comp where a couple of guys lifted the 520 stone (zydrunas and steve macdonald).
