so how is everyone doing with economic crises ? as for my job on the railroad there has been system wide slow downs in business and just in my home terminal there has been over 100 people laid off over the last 3 weeks, the outlook is pretty grim, i`m still holding on but i have 20 years on the job , i know my industry is not the only one having cutback, so i`m curious on the status of the rest of the dungeon members from around the globe..

Not looking good either since banks aren't lending mortgages or equity loans either. That is what funds a lot of the building industry.

i also hear the new thing is the credit company's are lowering the limit, affecting business and consumers alike, they apparently can lower your credit limit at any time and for any reason,no matter your credit score,

I dont think New Zealand has been hit by the bulk of it yet although a lot of my friends cant get jobs over the uni summer holiday which shows its definitly slowing up,

Im sweet though ive got 3 jobs so my chicken breasts will keep rolling in for now..

Credit card companies have always been able to raise,lower,cancel or anything else they want for any reason. If you get to close to your limit they can cancel you or miss one payment they raise the interest rate to the government max. I hate credit cards. Won't get one.

work is still good here for us. 09 has a lot of stuff on the books. I got 2 sets of prints on my desk now ready to pop. Couple of months a piece it will take me and my guys through april at that time the halls all empty out so we are looking at smooth sailing. The only thing that has really cut back is the overtime. I miss it. Makes the difference of 1600 a week down to 1000 roughly. I think after all the buyouts and rearranging loans should be back on track. I see fannie mae and freddy mac are starting to pick up some momentum again. Glad we bought in at 20 cents a share. Go fanny and freddie

The rail industry is cut because there not producing enough to ship or fill a rail car..

I just turned 20 years in The Information Technology field.. Allegheny Ludlum Plant in Midland was on the news yesterday. They cut jobs due to lack of work.. Not producing enough steel.. for appliance of various units. Auto part stores are not stocking parts due to the big 3 cutting jobs.

I'm still working.. thank god for that..

you hit the nail on the head there chris, thats exactly what is affecting us right now, we have seen a drop of 30% in train`s since the first of dec. alone, a bleak outlook for the rest of the year if things dont start turning around, which by the way it looks is not going to happen anytime soon, i`m happy to see your still working bro

the retail world has slowed down. people arent forking out like the used to on cell phones or other accerories at all. makes it hard to hit quota and keep your job. but the good news is that sprint realized this and lowered our quotas.

Unfortunately it going to get much much worse.. Rebounding from this takes a lot of time.. and toll on the economy..

I'm hating that the MTA might increase fares. It's re****ulous. I haven't been able to find a new job yet, but I'm 20 with no marketable skills other than I look good in a uniform and i'm athletic. Hence my search for a security guard position.

Things need to get a lot worse before they getter, so hopefully Obama can speed up that process. 09 and even 2010 should be an interesting year.

My cousin works in the financial feed at Bank of America, and yesterday he informed my dad that in the next year they will be laying off 35,000 people! Not only is that a crazy number, but if you're told to pack your bags in the accounting and banking district, there's not too many alternatives that are relatively near that preexisting salary.

That's a ton of people and a ton of foreclosed homes also. Another thing is that's 35,000 people that will cut back a lot on their spending which doesn't help the economy any either.

Fo' sho'. Guys working in that profession usually bring in close to $800k-1mil/yr, so when you're bringing in that sort of prodigious income your lifestyle accustoms to it. These guys living in these monstrosities would be left with no option but foreclosure, which does nothing for the economy.

I also read that there's been thoughts of the nation limiting the workforce to 4days/wk, which would take an extremely long time to do, but seems affective if the entire country is unified.

I don't see that ever happening. There's just to much supply and demand on a lot of things that are needed every day and are important. And other things of luxury that we all would want on our days off. If we all had 3 days off a week then there wouldn't be anything open on our days off.lol..

Very true. Doing that would require the entire nation to adjust, which I don't see happening in the near future. And if it did go into action, we'd have companies fitting through loopholes just like companies do now.

The problem is it is human nature to live beyond our means. To keep up with the Joneses, buy things we don't need and can't afford. Spending always adjusts with income. Money and mass media are the largest two oppressors of our society. As Kenney has said, they scare people about money and health and then they can control their thoughts and actions.

My advice: get rid of the TV and if there is a show you can't live without watch it online. If you wanna keep up with the news read it online. Drudgereport.com is where ALL of the news agencies get their news because it's straight from the associated press. So read the news there if you must, and form your own opinion don't let some talking head mass media machine indoctrinate you.

Reduce/eliminate credit card debt and sell items that you do not need on ebay. Create and follow a budget and you will find a lot of needless spending.

Usually the best way to get out of an economic depression is to go to war, but we are at war already and its not helping us at all. Hopefully Obama has a plan.

yea and thats a pretty crappy thing, having to kill people to boost the economic crises is just wrong, i`m not saying your wrong just the fact something like that is supposed to benefit the economy,

Yeah it really is a disturbing fact but its the truth. Just look at all the other wars, WWI WWII we needed weapons, we needed planes.. etc. it was all built in the USA so all the money was being circulated in our own economy.
