At the end of the day we all learn through Operant learning where there is an action and a consequence. I work with people who have been to court over 50 times. throughout this they are given asbos which they are proud of and use it as a status symbol, they are given on the spot fines of Ł80 and they are learning what? When they do finally received a custodial sentence, its too late, too far down the line, they have developed a pattern of living, a life style. I suggest its not just at the latter stages we restructure our criminal justice systems, I suggest it starts in schools with a return to coporal punishment and a revision of the Human Rights laws, its should be a privaledge there to protect the people who have not transgressed the law and not a right so the likes of Ian Brady can moan about having a drafty cell. descailing the human rights bill would enable people to utilise the old fashioned Boot Camps where people didnt have play bloody stations in their cell, but learnt to respect themselves and others with strict regimes, build in appropriate after care services so that people who leave prison have an opportunity to live their live and not re-offend. As for the other end of the scale, the likes of Ian Brady, the yorkshire ripper etc who are proven killers, why the **** should the taxes I pay be used to house them in a comfy cell, Capital punishment IMO should still be a Option!
