This isnt a one off Brent, Obviously I cant speak for the USA, we have been subjected to a series of murders where people have been given a " life sentence" and been given between 17-25 yrs. Put yourself as a grieving parent and imagine seeing the killer of your son/daughter/ loved one walking the streets free to live their lives. So what is the alternative? extending the prison sentences? In the uk the prisons are overcrowded already and where is the deterent for many guys who are institutionalised? to them being in prison is a way of life and what about the additional expense of the upkeep of these people, we cant dish out inhumane treatment to them as they have done to their victims, they have rights to be protected, fed and kept warm. Ian Brady ( serial Killer) recently threatened to sue the prison service because his cell was draughty! I have no answers but whether the death penalty returns are no, the system we have now is not working!
