There are plenty of cases where the person did not receive adequate punishment, hell look at OJ. We are talking about the concept as a whole.

thats if he misbehaves in prison. he could get time taken off for good behaviour, if he agrees to have a tag etc

This isnt a one off Brent, Obviously I cant speak for the USA, we have been subjected to a series of murders where people have been given a " life sentence" and been given between 17-25 yrs. Put yourself as a grieving parent and imagine seeing the killer of your son/daughter/ loved one walking the streets free to live their lives. So what is the alternative? extending the prison sentences? In the uk the prisons are overcrowded already and where is the deterent for many guys who are institutionalised? to them being in prison is a way of life and what about the additional expense of the upkeep of these people, we cant dish out inhumane treatment to them as they have done to their victims, they have rights to be protected, fed and kept warm. Ian Brady ( serial Killer) recently threatened to sue the prison service because his cell was draughty! I have no answers but whether the death penalty returns are no, the system we have now is not working!

true Kenney look at Jamie Bulgers killers, they got out realy early and you cant tell me one or other of the boys was not emotionally disturbed to kill someone like they did and yet they are out, given new identities, new lives, while the parents of Jamie are left with their own life sentence

not only that. while they were inside, they were taken on trips to footy matches and shit like that because being inside was too 'stressful' for them

OJ is an exception, besides if you spend millions on lawyers you can buy the courts over.

Look at the case of stephen lawrence, cops dont really do shit. I watch 'Americas Hardest PRisons' lol and it shows that prison gang leaders call the shots on the streets. So in a way, prison does breed crime. Gangs are becoming more organised and controlling. The world is power hungry nowadays!

I read somewhere last year, that in 2005 £10 000 of taxpayers money was spent to buy PS2's for juvenile facilities. what kind of system is that! all the human rights activists are protecting the rights of criminals. what about the rights of the victims and their families? i agree with Moorey, basic human rights should be a privilege for those that abide by the laws set in place, you commit murder/rape your human rights should be forfeit. in commiting such crimes you show no sign of humanity, so why should you have 'human' rights? I say show no mercy to those that murder and rape, kill them all in the way they killed/offended their victims.
