Hey guys, looking to spice up my food life. Getting hungry for new things. What do you eat before you hit the gym?

You obviously need a complex carb downed before you head to a gym, things like sweet potatoes, brown rice, Eziekel cereal, whole wheat bread, etc. Also protein chicken, steak, red meat.

That's the generics if that's what your asking. I generally stay away from fish preworkout cause it doesn't fill me up. Just eat and wait 45mins-1hr. Chicken and brown rice with Orange Juice 45 mins before a workout will work just as well as any pre workout supplement drink

Not to say i don't know what to eat. Just looking for new things to eat. Recently found myself getting bored of steak with brown rice and was wondering if anyone had anything they love to have before hitting the iron.

Pre and post I usually just stick with whey shakes that contain malto, and creatine mono. About an hour or hour in a half before the shake and after is when I'll have a solid meal that usually consists of chicken, rice and vegetables.

Oh well bodybuilding is a very monotonous sport. Chicken and brown rice are things that always have and always will work. Try sweet potatoes with some cinnammon or something. Tastes like candy. lol

Indeed it does. If you have it or wanna buy it get some Smart Balance butter. Any kind is good. This butter has no tran fats at all that includes no partially hydrogenated oils. If your worried about the extra fat work your ass off at the gym. haha

Edit: of course you put it on the sweet potato with cinnamon. Tastes so good when the butter is melted

If you wanna add little bit more to your sweet potato. Along with the smart butter and cinnamon, splenda works wonders as well. Good luck.

I usually have an 8 oz chicken breast and brown rice 2 hours before my workout, then 40grams of protein with some glyco-maize 30 mins pre workout

Be careful though man that I Can't Believe It's Not Butter has partially hydrogenated soybean oil (i think it's so bean) which means it does truly contain trans fat. Not sure if you cared or if you already knew just thinking aloud

IMO best thing is a protein shake. If you have any supps to take add them to it.No dextrose or **** save that for postworkout. Before your shake a half a sweet potato isnt bad with the I cant believe its not butter(has to be the spray) and some cinnamon.Dont worry about the carbs they will be gone by time you finish your workout lol.Of course I wouldnt do it if I was on a cut for a show.
Eating all these solid meals under an hour before your workout IMO is useless you want the protein in your system before you workout and it takes a while for it to digest

2 hours is too long for me to wait. I'd be ready to sit down to another meal, never mind train.

Do you do this because your body burns a lot of carbs during your workouts, so you want to deplete the glycogen in your muscles? I've heard that your body only burns 10% of protein as fuel. I'm just curious about your logic behind the protein shake. I do agree that dextrose and stuff is unnecessary pre-workout.

Protein shake in water will digest fast and the amino acids it carries should be in your system not only after a workout but prior to as well. It will take your body a little longer to process actual solids. When you put your body under stress for a period longer than 30 min or so your body will start using up your glycogen reserves for energy. So it is suggested to keep your glycogen levels high by eating some source of simple sugar.

But wouldn't it be good to use your glycogen? In a CKD, you carb up, then deplete your glycogen, so the next time you carb up, you get glycogen "super compensation". Which is where your body basically forces carbs straight to your muscles. Couldn't the same concept, but to a lesser degree, apply?
Plus, you could run the risk of going hypoglycemic during a workout if you spike your insulin beforehand.

How important is pre-workout nutrition in comparison to the importance of post-workout nutrition? Obviously both are, but by how much?

I would say post-workout is more important. Sure, without a good pre-workout feeding you won't be able to push as hard, but you still stimulated your muscles so they will need some nourishment to grow.

You and Hp are correct just depends on what concept ou want to go by.Personally i dont take in sugars or anything to spike my insulin before a workout.Especially on a Keto diet.
