So I started restricting my carbs about 3 weeks ago. I was at around 300g carbs a day before I decided that I really need to cut a little fat cause Im starting to develop love handles, LOL!

So Im strictly at 170g a day now. Im easing into it to see just how my body reacts and how much weight I will loose, I dont want to loose it too fast. I might cut a little more carbs depending on how I react in a couple more weeks. I dont know If I can handle extreme carb cutting like 50g a day.
Now to the point of this thread...

Today in the gym I could tell my power wasnt there like it was when I was carbing up. Last week I was a little off, but this week big time.
I had worked myself up to 225x4 on flat bench before I started this diet. I would do 8 sets of this. Usually I could get a couple of 5 reps sets at the beginning.

However, today what used to feel like 225 was at 215 today. I did good to get 4 reps of 215. It felt like a ton of bricks. Last week I struggled with 225, and then this week with 215

How far down in weight will I go Im wondering. I didnt realize carb cutting would effect me this dramatically with my weights. Ive heard of it being bad when your doing extreme carb cutting, but I dont consider what Im doing extreme.

Im getting 35% of my carbs preworkout which is roughly 60 carbs. I used to do almost double that though.

Ive dropped around 10lbs so far. Not sure if some is water weight though. Hopefully my weights will stop going down before Im back at 135 bench again LOL!

Low carbohydrate diets are never good when one is aiming for strength, but they are good for losing bodyweight (hopefully bodyfat, but expect some muscle to go as well). I am not saying you are doing this, but you never want to walk into the gym saying "I am on a low carbohydrate diet so therefore my weights will be lower then they usually are" as with this mindset will always end up proving itself to be true.

You could also not train as hard. When you're in a calorie deficit you won't be as strong, nor can you recover as quickly. So you could do less sets, and not train until failure. Don't forget to have refeed days. If how much your benching is a concern, you could make that day your refeed day.

I wasnt really thinking about being weaker from low carbs though, but maybe it was in the back of my mind at the time.

After I started to lift a few sets then I started to question it, and maybe it went down hill from there.

Im just going to try and still hit it hard as I can. I think ill change my rep range for few weeks and see how that goes. Its really time to switch things up a little bit anyways.

Ill tell you this much Im a little grumpier than usual, LOL! I find myself snapping where usually I wouldnt. Going to take some getting adjusted for sure.
