-No theories here plz.
I would like comments from ppl who have actually tried hitting the gym after eating spaghetti.

OK, I was using the weight gainer as fuel (carb suppliment) but i want to cut it cuz it's getting expensive and keep my dietary supplements to
creatine, whey protein, and a few amino acids like glutamine.

Recently i was making Spaghetti with meatballs and cheese but i cut them both out cuz ground beef and cheese aren't all that nutritious.
I only use whole wheat pasta now and tomato sauce.

I heard long distance runners eat spaghetti cuz they have complex carbohydrates which take long to break down so it gives long lasting fuel.
But when i eat it i find myself getting hungrier sooner than when i drank a weight gainer shake.
Why is that?

Doesn't make sense to me but does it work for running and not weight lifting (bulking)? or Am i just not eating enough (1.5 servings)?
What if i eat 1.5 servings wait around 15min for my stomach to break some of it down and have another 1.5 servings?
Can/should spaghetti be used for bulking? Are patatoes any better? Are peanut butter (no jelly) sandwiches a bad idea?
Whats a good food to eat when bulking?

I only eat spaghetti twice a day. Should i be eating it 5 times a day?

Well I don't eat spaghetti everyday pre workout but I know what happens. It's a complex carb so it's good to eat pre workout, if your still hungry after the first serving eat another. If you're bulking eat 5 servings if you can. It's actually better to eat all at once rather than waiting 15 minutes to digest something. In reality complex carbs take hours to digest not minute.

You're probably more hungry now because the weight gain shake had more fat in it stimulating CCK and making you feel fuller longer.

Think of it this way, when you eat a complex carbohydrate pre workout it is broken down steadily providing a slow stream of energy for the muscles during running or weight lifting. When you eat a simple carbohydrate pre workout you're spiking blood glucose and insulin levels. This brings all the nutrients into the muscle cells faster than it can escape.

Sweet potatoes are complex and good to eat through out the day. Normal white potatoes are fast digesting and shuold only be used PWO. Eat 6 meals a day.

Hope this helps.

Oats and oatmeal packets are good too. I eat that twice a day. Careful though all the whole grain things have huge amounts of fiber in them. I get like 70g fiber a day, it's ridiculous.

Yep, whole wheat pasta is fine. Unlike what you said before, ground beef is nutritious; make sure it's lean and as with anything, in moderation. However, with the pasta sauce, watch the sodium content; it can be scary sometimes. Mike: haha same here with the whole grains/fiber. As I say though, easy in, easy out!

ya whole wheat pasta is a good change in my diet instead of just brown rice and ezekiel bread and such....

i always try and eat about 15-30 mins before i workout....i find that i have more energy instead of just taking a protein shake and i dont feel as hungry

make sure to get your simple carbs after your workout tho

I think the increase in energy you feel is a placebo. You'd have to wait more like an hour before you started getting the fuel from the food. It could also be attributed to the meal that you ate before the pre workout meal. Ideally you should eat a pre workout meal about an hour or an hour and a half before you hit the weights.
