I just bought 2 gallon jugs of Poland Spring water- a good brand. And I take a swig and it tastes like plastic. I've heard that this is from sunlight reacting with the see through bottle. Whatcha heeard?? Haha this really pisses me off though cuz now I gotta go boil the water and wait for it to cool down.

Is this nasty tasting water safe to drink here or what?

I'm not sure Mike. The only time water tastes bad to me is when I accidentally get distilled.

Its usually the plastic jugs, check on the bottom, I have #3,#5 and #8s I think to give off the plastic taste.

I agree. Most water you purchase in plastic containers will have that plastic taste

The only single number I see on the bottom is a 2 inside of the recycling symbol.

Hey another quesiton too, I was just looking at a box of pizza and there's 0.5 trans fat per 1/4 the pizza. Ok so I'm looking for the hydrogenated and it doesn't have anything hydrogenated listed, did they just leave it out of the ingredients or does somehting else cause this?

Doesn't the nasty parts of cows contain trans fat naturally?

Spring water is not distilled, distilled goes through a whole other process, you usually use distilled water in like science labs.

There are different numbers for each kind of plastic.

i never taste plastic in my bottled water the only water that taste like crap to me is fountain and some tap water depends on where i am

Boiling water will make it taste way worse! We've had to do it while we were out hiking because our water purifiers all broke..lol.. Bad luck that trip! As for the plastic taste, I have noticed different brands taste like ass and the ones that taste real good have "Minerals" in them aka salt! I also heard that leaving bottles of water in the car in the sunlight releases chemicals in the plastic into the water and can lead to cancer.

And how true that is. Everything is made with chemicals that aren't needed or materials that are a waste. I remember back in the day when my mom would get me a bottle of mountain dew when it was in a glass bottle, it tasted so much different then it does these days in a plastic bottle or a can.

How does boiling water and killing everything bad in the water besides H2O make it taste worse?? So should I stop drinking this gallon or what?

I'm sure htis one gallon won't but if it's common knowledge you'd think that'd have fixed the problem by now. I mean this is a good brand not some **** store brand. I've never had a problem before, let me see if the other gallon tastes the same..... hmm actually it tastes fine. Huh imagine that, same brand same store different flavor.

I tried boiling water at home once on a regular cooking pot, that was probably the worst tasting "clean" water I've had in my 20 years of life, felt like drinking a blend of cement, dust and paint.

Damn I wonder why that is. I have a Brita filter, my well water's infected with bacteria possibly salmonella. But yeah I was drinking that **** for years with deathly stomach pains and what not along iwth the rest of my family so we're stuck with bottled water right now.

My dad has a bottle of medicine worth 1200 dollars for killing the bacteria.

depends on the source, most of it is the hardness of the water which equates to the amount of minerals in the water, up here my water has a hardness of 22 which is really high, get lots of calcium deposits around the faucets, that and lime is a issue in water hardness,, the best water i have bought was smart water,, excellent taste and now plastic flavor....

i personally don't buy water in bottles because it gets too expensive. i prefer to either just drink tap water (we have pretty good, tasteless tap water here) or just run tap water through the filter in my brita pitcher and then fill up water bottles. like some people said though, if you have bad tap water, you might just be stuck buying bottled water.

Gotta go with the above counter purifier. If you move or whatever, just haul it with ya. Small, UV light kills bacteria, and one of the best filtration systems you can get. Only rips ya like $500, and don't have to worry about a thing for like 2 years, not even a filter change. Its great, highly recommend.
