Hi we always here that the golden rule for protein intake should be 1 g/1lb bodyweight when bulking and between 1.2 and 1,5 when cutting, but shouldn't the intake be calcutted in respect to lean body mass and not so much based on total bodyweight? Obviously this is not a big issue for very lean guys (the difference between lbm and total bodyweight being small), but for people with around 20% bodyfat, the numbers changes quite a bit, am I right here?

You still need protein to grow though. You can grow on less but you need to have the right macro breakdown.

yeah I realize that, but I would state that the macros changes a bit if you calculate based on LBM instead of total bodyweight including bodyfat.. At my bodyweight and percentage bodyfat, the difference would be 40-50 grams of protein..

Ideally this is correct it should be based on LBM but unless you have hydrostatic weighing or DEXA at you finger tips to get your LBM then it is more a rough estimate anyways.... methods like bioimpedence and calipers have approx 5% error depending on the person doing the analysis and their equipment. this means that you will only be gettign an estimate which is exactly what 1g per lb of body wt is... it is an estimate... and the resaon it is still good for people with higher fat % is that protein will help them lose wt so having a higher protein intake is not only good for building muscle but keeping muscle and aiding in fat loss. most proteins you eat during the day are pretty slow releasing taking 1-8hrs to digest, where carbohydratese digest far quicker, within 2rhs... if you have a body fat % over 15% higher protein intake can aid in wt loss and enable you to keep far more lean mass when dieting.... it may be an over estimate for their muscle mass but it will aid them far more than impede them in wt loss

Great answer thx, the reason why I ask was actually rather different, when taking in say..300 grams a day when cutting i feel bloated in a very unconfortable way and at the same time i become very flatulent, so I was just wondering if less was actually better... But thx man:)

Lebowski, stop the name calling you are the one who is wrong. youngbb is correct. Carbs are protein sparing. The more carbs you have the less protein you need because carbs will be used for glucose and therefore will spare protein from being broken down to yield glucose so protein can be used efficiency for growth and repair.

The original poster was asking about protein intake while cutting.

So you're saying replace your protein intake with carbs while cutting? Great idea?! Damn I've been doing it all wrong!

Ok as it relates to the original poster I already answered his question in post #2. I thought we had moved on from there..
