I know these are stats but they provide a humbling perspective:
"1/5 of the world's 6 billion plus people have no land and no possessions at all. They survive on less than $1/day, they lack clean drinking water, and they cannot read or write.
The avg. U.S. house cat receives twice as much protein every day as one of these people, and the cost of keeping that cat is greater than such a person's annual income.
Economists calculate that cutting world hunger and malnutrition in half by 2015 would generate a value of more than $120B in longer, healthier, more productive lives." - pg. 697
