In this months issue of Fitness RX (Sept 2008, pg 34), there is an article titled "Post-Exercise Carb Feeding Lowers Testosterone". It goes on to explain the decreased levels of testorsterone found in men after weight training when carbs are consumed. It also states the positive reasons for carbs and how it triggers the insulin spike to transport the nutrients to the muscles for tissue repair. The article ends with "the researchers could not explain why carb ingestion decreased testosterone or what it means to gym rats and power athletes".
The article right after that one is titled "Post-exercise carb supplements boost immunity" (same page as listed above). This article explains how carb supplementation before, during, and after intense workouts helps the body maintain recovery and relieve stress from over training the body leading to injury and sickness.
