I naturally have a slower metabolism. I want to know what I can do to raise it dramatically. Im 5'11" 196 pounds and I want to start cutting muscle and getting rid of unwanted belly fat due to previous bulking over the summer.

Im going to start dieting and changing my workouts so I can cutting. But I need to know how to keep my metabolism high so I can lose more fat.

There are things you can do to increase your metabolism but you must understand that it's not a yo-yo (metabolism adaptations take time) and that if you have a naturally slow metabolism it's unlikely you'll ever be able to be like someone who has a fast metabolism. And be aware, the less you eat, the more your metabolism will slow down to adapt to the calorie intake, as much as it can anyway.

You don't really need to change your workouts, though adding cardio is a good idea.

There are some herbs which can help a bit, and there are drugs that can help a lot (from ephedrine to testosterone).

For general changes:
1)Eat little and often (ever 2-3 hours, eat/drink something)
2)Increase your protein intake (don't be excessive)
3)Add cardiovascular exercise (preferably high intensity, interval or not)
4)Sleep well!

Start with as high calories as you can. Don't drop to 1500kcal from the first day of your cut.

eat every 2 - 2 1/2 hrs.

get plenty of protein

Gain muscle, the more muscle you have the higher your metabolism

I'm lazy and have found that adding 20 mins cardio post workout, nothing serious just eliptical or bike to about 135-145bpm, has made a big difference over time.

Control your caloric intake (this doesnt mean eat a ultra calorie restricted diet either, it just means your not bulking anymore so time to stop eating so damn much) with the exception of a cheatmeal every so often (increases thyroid output). Eat Moderate carbs and fat, and ~1.2g/lb of LBM of protein. Limit carbs from grains as much as possible, IMO an excepted time would be PWO/Upon waking, rice or oatmeal. Keep your carbs mostly from plant sources (limit fruit to 2X's a day tops, mostly citrus and berries if possible), and try to get your fat from varried sources (most likely you will need to substitute with some omega-3s, best source being fish oil... IMO). Learn the fundamentals of nutrient timing, trust me this really helps. Do Sprints.... Increases GH, which will help you break done fat and build muscle. Lift weights! I'm sure your allready doing this but no better way to naturally increase test/GH to help you turn your body into a fat burning, muscle building machine, then lifting some heavy ass weights. Do shit, honestly people talk about having a low metabolism and all this shit, but will sit on their asses all day (not saying this is you) but find a healthy hobby even if its just hiking or playing hoops with your friends.
