Hey guys,
just a few simple questions.
1. Do vegetable/fruits have any hidden "bad" things? (sorry for the lack of a better word) , I been told banana's (and other fruits) may have alot of sugar.
2. At what point does your body start using muscle for sustinance.
3.(Kind of vague) What is the best way to lose weight, but not wasting alot of muscle.
4.Does steaming/grilling (just putting on heat, adding nothing) add calories?(or other things)

vegetables and fruit were put on earth to eat so dont stress about if some have higher sugar than others. its true some may have higher sugar than others but who cares just like some people stay clear of certain vegetables. IMO theres more to life than worrying about avioding a certain type of fruit of vegetable just because it has 1g extra sugar than the other.

if you cook vegetables in water all the water soluble vitamins and minerals will leach into water and defeat the purpose of eating veggies. the best way to cook veg is limit cooking time either steam them or cook in microwave. no need to cook the hell out of them.

as far as cooking meat all heat does is denature the proteins it does not deplete the meat from and vitamins or minerals or protein content for that matter and no it adds no calories unless u cook with oil.

the best way to lose bodyfat is to reduce ur daily calorie intake to about 250 - 500 calories less then your daily expendature any more of a calorie deficit will lead to muscle loss. ideally consuming a fair amount of protein and eating lots of veggies!

They do contain sugars just look up which fruit you are eating and find out exactly how much and limit it according to your diet needs.

2. At what point does your body start using muscle for sustinance.
Its all conditional, if your body is under stress cortisol can be released and will encourage protein catabolism for energy. if you deprive your body of carbohydrates to break down for energy, and are not consuming enough fats your body will break down the protein. Just diet smart and you shouldnt have to worry.

3.(Kind of vague) What is the best way to lose weight, but not wasting alot of muscle.
There are plenty of diets that will help you maintain muscle while cutting fat, ranging from a nutrient timing based diet, to an extreme ketogenic diet. Find one that you believe you can follow and thats the best one, at least until you figure out what works best for you. Do not go to extremes with a caloric deficit, Do not go to extremes with cardio, Do not expect extreme progress over night.... basically just take your time and lose the weight nice and slow, and avoid extremes :-)

4.Does steaming/grilling (just putting on heat, adding nothing) add calories?(or other things)
No
Answers in bold.

Can anyone explain what a ketogenic diet is?
Also, I know I won't see results overnight. Basically I have 2 months to make over my body for sports. Maybe 3 months.

Extremely low carbs, to the point where your body starts breaking down fats into ketone bodies and your body adapts to using them as its prefered energy source, rather then glucose.
