OK, I'm on day 5, in ketosis and measuring "large" on the ketostix.

From what I've read and been advised, I should incorporate a carb up at 6-7 days for 36 hours.

WHY??

Maybe I'm just excited to be in ketosis lol, but won't eating carbs during those 36 hours take me right out of it?

I'm currently reading the ebook of Lyle's The Ketogenic Diet, and I'm not to that part yet. I'm sure the answer is there, but since the weekend is near and the end of tomorrow is when I should begin my carb up, I was looking for more guideance.

And Monday being the first day of back to <20 carbs, how should my weight routine go since I would have just loaded up on carbs? And while we're on that subject, should I even work out on Sunday (carb day)?

Thanks guys (and gals)!

you carb load to replenish the glycogen levels. it will take you out of ketosis, but don't worry about that, you will get back into it after you end yo carbload and jump back at ketosis.

You also prevent your metabolism from decreasing via an upregulation over a vast hormonal cascade (that will be explained far more clearly in the book than I can in 5 minutes). Think: leptin, thyroid hormone, etc.

Thanks for the replies.

I did do my refeed saturday evening and all of sunday.

Couple funny things occured.
I never got out of ketosis. I even tested large sunday around noon.

Today being day #2 again, I'm teetering between negative and trace all day.
I do drink a lot of water typically but not so much today.

Your body will actually be on the transition out of ketosis, but you'll find with excessive calroies as long as fats are limited you will have negligable fat gains during refeeds
