The way i was explained to by a company called Controlled Labs (Green Bulge,
Purple Wraath, etc) is the idea (what a horrible sentence this is) that if you sell it cheaper then a website like bodybuilding.com or orbitnutrition or whoever sells it, then you wont get as much publicity or eyes for your product.
In this case, nobody would know what Naturally More was if they continually sold the products cheaper then retailers sold it. So, they sell it either at a loss (doubt it) or allow that company they are selling it to to sell it cheaper then they do so they get a company that has a huge market (Wal-Mart) to sell their products so they can get alot more moniezzzz.
If you cut out the middle man, you risk going bankrupt because you wont have the draw for your product that a big story like GNC or Wal-Mart or Target or whatever has. People tend to like buying things at brick and mortar stores anyways.
Also, if you continually sell it at a cheaper cost than the company that sells your product (in this case, Wal-Mart), you risk pissing them off and them pulling support.
This is why there are middle men in most cases. Its a shitty cycle.
Hopefully that shed some light on things.
