I tried this in the BB discussion section with not much luck so I decided I'll try it here. My delimma is I've lost 7 LBS since June of last year. I've been on my bulk for about 3 months now and the last thing I thought I was doing was losing weight. My stats are 5'8 170lbs mesomorph. My macros have been:

calories 2942 fat 90 carbs 299 protein 247

supplements include : fish oil, flaxseed oil, multi, b12 supp, whey protein and bcaa

routine: starting this week
monday-chest tris
tuesday-back bis
wednesday- legs
thursday- shoulders

previous routine: did this one for about a month to change things up
monday-chest
tuesday-back
wednesday-legs
thursday-shoulders
friday-bis/tris

Ive never eaten so much in my life and I just started lifting in September. My goal is to bulk, build mass. I guess I need to eat more? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks fellas.

Jason

What has your bf% been like... do you see yourself losing fat? Either way, start adding an additional 500 or so calories each week until you see yourself start gaining again. Keep an eye on your bf and remember a bulk is not an excuse to get fat.

Id also cut down on your protein consumption. On a bulk, you should REALLY focus on getting in a ton of carb imo. Its on a cut when you want the protein consumption to go to about 1.3-1.5 per pound.

Right now, you are at about 1.4 but your not on a cut. A bulk doesnt need that amount of protein imo. You should cut back on your protein, go between 1 gram per pound or about 1.2 max.

Also, i wouldnt add 500 calories to start. Id gradually increase. Go up about 100-200 calories and measure yourself each day. If you start gaining, stay with that weight until that tapers off and continue with that process.

If you jump up in calories too much, you start on a plan i like to call: fatting.

good catch didnt notice he had put up his macros before... definitely bring your protein down and carbs up. I believe going up a 100 at a time is just becoming anal, especially with a 170 lb meso only taking in less then 3k Calories, but thats just personal opinion.

You might want to try some creatin. Ive gained about 5lbs from it. Mostly water but it helps recovery time too.

500 calories is a little much though imo. Especially if you are going to be jumping by that amount every time you dont gain a lb or two.

At 100-200 calorie increases, you can easily tell where you need to be without taking in excess calories. If your gaining weight at a slow and steady pace, you arent likely to be gaining quite as much fat. Plus, you can easily add 100-200 calories in a diet. At a 500 calorie increase with him ALREADY complaining about eating so much food is going to be pretty hard.

Also, this is a silly question considering how detailed the information is, but how many meals do you eat a day jake24lp? More than 5?

I bet you have more mass then he does though, which means your resting metabolic rate is much higher.

True true, he should probably just man up though... it comes with the territory. i think 500 a week is a pretty gradual increase, allows enough time to assess where hes at, and tell if he needs to add that 500 next week... i guess essentially we both have the same idea... except mine was a little more extreme :-)

Yea, just a little extreme for my tastes. It is just alot easier to add 100-200 calories in a clean manner than it is to add 500.

500 a week isn't too bad.

That's easier than 500 a day or every other day. He's going to be able to get a better gain and feel better if he does it gradually rather than all at once
